Iroha Isshiki (一色 いろは, Isshiki Iroha) is a character in the My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU (Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru.) series. She is a first-year student in Class 1-C at Soubu High School. Initially introduced as one of the soccer club’s managers, Iroha later becomes the Student Council President despite her reluctance, playing a recurring role in both school activities and the series’ central social dynamics.
Personality

Appearance in Anime
Iroha Isshiki often presents herself as a cheerful and slightly clumsy “airhead,” a persona she maintains to appear endearing and likable. This carefully crafted image allows her to avoid conflict and subtly manipulate those around her. While she initially appears mischievous and superficial, it becomes clear especially through Hachiman Hikigaya’s perspective that Iroha is not nearly as shallow as she seems. As the series progresses, she begins to show genuine kindness and maturity, becoming less calculating and more self-aware.
Beneath her innocent facade, Iroha is significantly more intelligent and perceptive than she lets on. While most students are deceived by her outward behavior, characters like Hachiman and Hayato Hayama see through her act. Hayato, in particular, notes her concern with maintaining a favorable public image, especially during the student council election, where she is more concerned with how she loses than the actual outcome. Despite being image-conscious, she shows no hesitation in associating with Hachiman, who is generally disliked by the student body.
Hachiman, known for his brutally honest observations, compares Iroha to various characters in the series calling her an “uncute Komachi Hikigaya,” a “better Minami Sagami,” a “phony Meguri Shiromeguri,” a “different Kaori Orimoto,” and an “inferior Haruno Yukinoshita.” He humorously labels her the “second most rotten person in the world,” placing himself first. Despite this, he acknowledges her subtle depth and notes that she is the type to draw envy from other girls due to her cuteness and proximity to Hayato.
Though Iroha often lacks self-confidence and claims to have no close friends outside the Service Club, this begins to shift after she overhears Hachiman’s heartfelt desire for “something genuine.” Her experience organizing the Christmas event and seeing it succeed also helps her grow more confident and sincere.
Cynical and socially aware, Iroha operates with a guarded heart. Yet over time, she reveals more vulnerability, sincerity, and a growing willingness to step outside her self-imposed shell.
Appearance
Iroha Isshiki is a cute teenage girl with shoulder-length, bob-cut flaxen hair and long bangs that fall over the left side of her face. She has soft, light brown eyes often described as having a honey-colored hue that contribute to her overall sweet and approachable appearance.
At school, she typically wears the standard Sobu High School uniform, though with a few personal touches. She is often seen wearing a light pink cardigan over her uniform, and she tends not to follow the dress code strictly, giving her a more relaxed and informal look.
Abilities
Iroha Isshiki demonstrates a growing aptitude for management, initially shown through her role as one of the managers of the school’s soccer club. While she initially lacks confidence, her skills gradually improve after she reluctantly assumes the position of Student Council President.
As her self-assurance develops, Iroha becomes increasingly capable of organizing school events and handling responsibilities tied to her role. Despite this progress, she often relies on the Service Club particularly Hachiman Hikigaya for support and guidance, especially when dealing with complex tasks or pressure-filled situations.
Etymology
The given name Iroha (いろは) is written in hiragana and, in this form, carries no specific meaning. However, when written in kanji, it can take forms such as 彩葉, meaning “colored leaves,” or 彩羽, combining iro (彩, “color”) and ha (羽, “feather”).
Her surname, Isshiki (一色), is written with the kanji for ichi (一, “one”) and shiki (色, “color” or “article”), which together can be interpreted as “one color” or “monochrome.”
