Historia Reiss

Historia Reiss(ヒストリア・レイス Hisutoria Reisu) is the current Queen of the Walls. She graduated from the 104th Cadet Corps and formerly served as a member of the Scout Regiment. Historia is the illegitimate child of nobleman Rod Reiss, making her the last surviving member of the Reiss royal family.

During her time as a cadet, she adopted the nameChrista Lenz(クリスタ・レンズ Kurisuta Renzu) to hide her true identity after being forced to renounce her name and royal lineage. Eventually, she reclaimed her real name and became a valuable asset to the Scout Regiment. Following a coup d’état, Historia ascended to the throne, replacing the previous puppet monarch, and became the rightful queen of the Walls.

History

Historia Reisswas born as the illegitimate and unacknowledged daughter of Rod Reiss, head of the Reiss family, the true royal family within the Walls. She was raised on the Reiss estate but was largely neglected, especially by her mother, who kept a cold distance from her and never showed affection. Historia’s mother rarely interacted with her, often leaving the estate at night and avoiding any maternal duties.

However, Historia received occasional visits from her older half-sister, Frieda Reiss, who became a comforting, motherly figure for her. Frieda would spend time teaching Historia to read and playing with her, but would erase Historia’s memories after each visit, hoping to protect her from their family’s dark secrets. One day, Frieda read Historia a story about a heroic figure named Christa, encouraging her to live a virtuous life and help others, just like Christa. This idea had a lasting impression on Historia, inspiring her throughout her life.

Despite Frieda’s attempts to be a positive influence, Historia grew up yearning for the affection she lacked, especially from her mother. This culminated in a painful experience where, as a child, Historia attempted to hug her mother but was violently rejected. Her mother even lamented not having the strength to kill her when she was born. Despite this traumatic moment, Historia felt strangely happy because it was the first time her mother had ever spoken directly to her. Following this, Historia was shunned by those around her and became aware that she was seen as a burden, though she did not fully understand why at the time.

These early experiences left a lasting impact on Historia’s emotional development, shaping her feelings of loneliness and her quest to find her own identity.

Abilities

Historia Reiss, adorned with her crown, symbolizes hope and resilience as she embraces her role as queen, leading her people toward a brighter future.

Omni-Directional Mobility Gear
Historia demonstrated solid abilities with her omni-directional mobility gear (ODM) and blades during her time as a cadet. She performed well enough to rank in the top 10 of the 104th Cadet Corps, surpassing over 200 other soldiers in her class. This ranking allowed her the opportunity to join the Military Police Regiment, a prestigious position within the military. However, Historia herself suspected that her ranking was not entirely due to her own efforts but rather due to Ymir’s behind-the-scenes intervention. Ymir, her close companion, may have manipulated the system to ensure Historia’s placement in the top 10, though the specifics of how this was achieved remain unclear. Despite this, Historia’s skills were still above average, allowing her to survive many dangerous missions.

Relationships

Ymir

Historia shared a deep and complex relationship with Ymir, who was deeply in love with her. Both girls connected over similar struggles, with Ymir becoming a trusted ally and confidante to Historia. Ymir often encouraged Historia to live for herself and not just to please others, which had a profound impact on her. Ymir’s influence helped Historia gain the strength to defy her father’s plan to inject her with the Titan serum and consume Eren. Historia mourned deeply after reading Ymir’s farewell letter, demonstrating the strong emotional bond they shared.

Rod Reiss

Rod Reiss was Historia’s biological father, but their relationship was strained and manipulative. Rod abandoned her when she was a child, and only sought her out years later to use her for his own ambitions. Although Rod tried to convince Historia to inherit the power of the Titans and reclaim the Reiss family’s power, she ultimately rejected him. Realizing Rod only saw her as a tool to achieve his goals, Historia turned against him and played a key role in his defeat, releasing herself from his control and the pain he caused.

Frieda Reiss

Frieda was Historia’s older half-sister and a kind maternal figure to her during her early years. Frieda often visited Historia, teaching her valuable lessons and erasing her memories at the end of each visit to protect her. Despite their affectionate relationship, Historia struggled with grief after recovering her memories of Frieda following her death at the hands of Grisha Jaeger. Historia almost considered her father’s plan to revive Frieda by consuming Eren, but ultimately rejected it, understanding that Frieda’s power was not a solution.

Sasha Braus

Historia and Sasha shared a friendly relationship. Sasha initially viewed Historia as almost goddess-like, especially after Historia offered her food and water during training. The two remained close throughout their time as cadets, though Sasha was not involved in Historia’s more personal struggles with her past.

104th Cadet Corps

Historia was highly admired by her fellow cadets, particularly the male members of the 104th Cadet Corps, who were captivated by her beauty and kindness. She gained popularity as the “angel” of the group and was particularly known for her selflessness, such as when she rescued Reiner, Armin, and Jean from danger during training.

Eren Jaeger

Initially, Eren disliked Historia’s false “Christa” persona, seeing it as insincere. However, after learning her true identity, he grew to respect her for being more authentic. Eren’s acknowledgment of Historia’s true self, and his preference for her as Historia rather than Christa, deeply impacted her. His support helped Historia gather the courage to defy her father’s orders and save Eren from being consumed.

Alma

Though not as close to Bertholdt, Eren respected his courage. After discovering Bertholdt’s identity as the Colossal Titan, Eren’s anger towards him was fierce. He vowed to kill Bertholdt and eventually delivered him to his death, though without the satisfaction he had imagined. Later, Eren reflected that his anger towards Bertholdt was misguided due to his lack of understanding of their motives at the time.
