Appearance in Anime

Hiroto Suwa is depicted as a tall and athletic young man, standing at 185 cm with a muscular build. His blood type is O. His physical stature and energetic personality reflect his role as a key member of the school’s soccer team and a dependable presence among his friends.

In the present timeline, Suwa has light chestnut brown hair, worn slightly long, and black eyes. He is typically seen in the standard school uniform, which he wears neatly: a dark green blazer, blue sweater, white dress shirt, grey slacks, and brown shoes. Instead of the standard school-issued brown bag, Suwa uses a distinct red and white Adidas bag, which he also carries to soccer practice. He wears a beaded necklace in the present timeline, which is notably absent in his future self.

In the future timeline, Suwa’s appearance matures. He is seen wearing a more casual, adult outfit consisting of a black shirt, blue jacket, green khaki pants, and brown lace-up boots, reflecting his growth and the passage of time.

Personality

Hiroto Suwa is known for his extroverted, cheerful, and easy-going personality. He is one of the most socially open members of the group and is the first to befriend Kakeru Naruse after his transfer, highlighting his natural friendliness and welcoming nature. Suwa often lightens the mood with his sense of humor and playful attitude, and he is occasionally shown to be gluttonous, often eating with enthusiasm.

Beneath his lively and upbeat nature, Suwa is a deeply kind-hearted and selfless individual. He consistently puts the feelings and well-being of others before his own, especially when it comes to Naho and Kakeru. Despite harboring strong feelings for Naho, Suwa chooses to support her growing relationship with Kakeru, prioritizing their happiness over his own desires. This act of emotional maturity and quiet sacrifice underscores his loyalty and inner strength.

Suwa can sometimes appear clueless or hesitant, particularly when dealing with emotionally complex situations. For instance, although he receives a letter from his future self, just like Naho, he withholds the information for some time and never reveals that he and Naho get married in the original timeline. Similarly, in the original timeline, despite understanding that Kakeru and Naho have mutual feelings for each other, Suwa remains silent until after Kakeru’s death, suggesting a tendency to suppress his own emotions and avoid disrupting others’ relationships.

Another unique trait of Suwa’s personality is his willingness to do embarrassing or exaggerated things in the name of friendship and care. He doesn’t hesitate to go to great lengths to support those around him, such as when he gives Kakeru flowers, gets on his hands and knees to beg him to join the soccer club, or in the alternate future proposes to Naho even before they begin dating. These moments reflect both his boldness and his sincerity, adding depth and warmth to his character.

Background

Suwa has known Naho and the others since early in high school and is part of their close-knit friend group. In the original future, Kakeru passes away, and Suwa ends up marrying Naho, with whom he has a child. However, his letter to his past self reflects his regret and unresolved feelings, as he recognizes that Kakeru should have lived, and Naho may have been happier with him.

In the current timeline, after receiving the letter from his future self, Suwa actively works with the others to change the future and prevent Kakeru’s death, often taking on the role of emotional support and encourager within the group.

Relationships

Naho Takamiya
Suwa harbors deep, unrequited love for Naho. In the original future, they marry and have a child together, but in the alternate timeline, he chooses to support her love for Kakeru, prioritizing her happiness over his own.

Kakeru Naruse
Suwa’s close friend and emotional rival. Although both love Naho, Suwa respects and values Kakeru, going to great lengths to help him avoid his tragic fate.

Saku Hagita, Takako Chino, Azusa Murasaka
Suwa is an essential member of the group, and his charisma helps maintain their team dynamic throughout their efforts to save Kakeru.

Suwa’s Future Self
The older Suwa deeply regrets Kakeru’s death, and his actions in sending the letter are driven by a desire to give Kakeru a second chance, even if it means sacrificing the life and family he has built.

Legacy

Hiroto Suwa is a character defined by quiet sacrifice and unshakable loyalty. As both a friend and romantic figure, his willingness to place others’ happiness above his own makes him one of the most emotionally resonant characters in Orange.

Through both timelines, Suwa demonstrates that heroism doesn’t always come from winning love or changing fate, but sometimes from simply being there for others when it matters most. His story is one of bittersweet love, friendship, and redemption.
