Himiko (ヒミコ), real name Emilia Mikogami (エミリア・ミコガミ), is the main female protagonist and deuteragonist of the manga and anime series Btooom!. A high school student forcibly entered into the deadly survival game Btooom!, she becomes the third member of Ryōta Sakamoto’s group and ultimately serves as his closest ally and love interest. Her strength, resilience, and tragic backstory add emotional depth to the series’ high-stakes, action-packed premise.
Unknown to most, Himiko is the daughter of Longer Schwaritz, the enigmatic leader of the Schwaritz Foundation, a powerful organization with shadowy connections to the Btooom! game. Despite this lineage, she is unaware of her true identity for much of the story.
Background

Appearance in Anime
Prior to the events of the series, Emilia Mikogami lived a relatively normal life as a Japanese high school girl, going by the name Himiko. Her life was upended when she was nominated to participate in the real-life version of the Btooom! game, a brutal death match where participants use specialized bombs (BIMs) to kill others and survive.
Before arriving on the island, Himiko had suffered multiple betrayals and traumas, particularly from people she once trusted, which led her to develop a deep mistrust of men. This emotional scar greatly affects her behavior when she first encounters Ryōta. Over time, however, she begins to open up and rely on him, becoming a key emotional and strategic partner in their struggle to escape the game alive.
Appearance
Himiko is a teenage girl with long blonde hair, usually styled in twin tails, and vivid blue eyes. She wears a standard schoolgirl uniform, which becomes tattered and worn as the series progresses. Her appearance is often associated with fragility and innocence, yet her expressions and body language convey strength and alertness.
Her physical attractiveness often draws unwanted attention, but she proves herself capable and resilient, adapting quickly to the dangers of the island.
Personality
Himiko is initially cautious, mistrustful, and emotionally guarded, particularly around men. This stems from a traumatic betrayal prior to the game, where she was assaulted by individuals she once considered friends. Despite this, she is not cold or unkind merely cautious.
As she bonds with Ryōta, she reveals her compassionate, intelligent, and loyal side. She is resourceful in combat, capable of making quick decisions under pressure, and willing to put herself at risk for those she cares about. Her emotional arc involves reclaiming her trust in others, especially in Ryōta, with whom she eventually forms a deep romantic connection.
Role in the Story
Arrival and Survival: Himiko arrives on the island already hardened by her trauma. Early in the game, she is portrayed as fierce and solitary, distrusting others and relying solely on her instincts. When she meets Ryōta, she initially fears him but gradually realizes that he is not like the others.
Partnership with Ryōta: Over time, Himiko and Ryōta become a dynamic survival duo, complementing each other’s skills in combat and decision-making. Himiko provides both emotional support and combat aid, using her tactical awareness and inner strength to protect her group.
Romance and Revelation: As they grow closer, Ryōta and Himiko fall in love, and she becomes one of his strongest motivations to survive and escape the island. Later, it is revealed that she is the biological daughter of Longer Schwaritz, which ties her fate more deeply into the conspiracy behind Btooom!.
Relationships
Ryōta Sakamoto: Her closest ally and eventual love interest. Their relationship evolves from fear and mistrust to mutual respect, emotional reliance, and romantic love. Himiko protects Ryōta as much as he protects her, and their bond is central to the emotional core of the series.
Longer Schwaritz: Her biological father and the leader of the Schwaritz Foundation, though their connection is not known to her for most of the story. His involvement in the Btooom! project gives her existence a hidden importance within the larger conspiracy.
Other Players: Himiko maintains a defensive stance toward other players, especially men, due to her past trauma. While she eventually learns to work with a few allies, her trust is hard-earned.
