Himawari is a second-year student at Nanamori Middle School, serving on the Student Council alongside her classmate and constant rival, Sakurako Ōmuro. Though she often speaks in a composed and formal tone, she is easily provoked by Sakurako’s antics, resulting in frequent arguments that form a core comedic dynamic in the series.

Outside of school, Himawari is depicted as responsible and studious, often taking her duties seriously. She has a younger sister named Kaede Furutani, who appears in the Ōmuro-ke spin-off alongside Sakurako’s siblings.

Himawari has long, dark purple hair worn in twin ponytails tied with light-colored ribbons, and dark violet eyes. Her appearance gives off an elegant and mature vibe that contrasts sharply with Sakurako’s more casual look. She wears the Nanamori school uniform, and her posture and expressions often reflect her calm, refined nature except during her many spats with Sakurako, during which she’s prone to exaggerated reactions.

Himawari is intelligent, composed, and often sarcastic, especially when dealing with Sakurako.
