Personality

Appearance in Anime
Haruka Kasugano is portrayed as a kind-hearted, sincere, and friendly young man who is generally well-liked by those around him. He has a gentle nature and forms meaningful connections with others with relative ease. While he often acts mature and dependable, he occasionally displays a childish side, especially when it comes to matters involving his twin sister, Sora, toward whom he can be notably protective.
Haruka is respected in the village, partially due to his family’s legacy, his grandfather was a well-regarded local doctor. In the anime adaptation, which follows the visual novel’s branching structure, Haruka becomes romantically involved with several of the heroines across different narrative arcs, each exploring distinct facets of his character and emotional development.
Appearance
Haruka Kasugano stands at 170 cm tall and has short silver hair and grey eyes, giving him a soft and gentle appearance. His features closely resemble those of his twin sister, Sora, to the point that they are often described as near-identical in facial structure. Haruka has a slim build, pale complexion, and an overall youthful look. He is considered to be an attractive young man by several characters in the series.
Background
Haruka Kasugano, along with his twin sister Sora, lost both parents in a tragic accident prior to the events of Yosuga no Sora. With no close family to rely on, the twins return to their late grandfather’s rural home, seeking to rebuild their lives in the familiar countryside where they spent their early childhood. Haruka, tasked with looking after both their well-being and daily needs, takes on a caretaker role for his sister, while also attempting to reconnect with people from their past and adapt to the local school environment.
Upon settling into the village, Haruka reunites with several childhood friends, including Nao Yorihime and Akira Amatsume, and is quickly introduced to new classmates such as Kozue Kuranaga, Kazuha Migiwa, and Ryouhei Nakazato. Although Sora initially isolates herself and expresses resentment toward others particularly Nao, Haruka tries to balance his new social relationships with his responsibilities at home.
As the story unfolds in multiple narrative arcs, Haruka becomes romantically involved with several heroines depending on the path chosen. In the anime’s most controversial arc, Haruka gradually uncovers that Sora harbors deep romantic feelings for him. After a series of emotionally complex and conflicting interactions involving Nao and other classmates, Haruka comes to realize his own feelings for Sora and the two begin a secret romantic relationship.
This taboo relationship is soon discovered by their friends, leading to shock, heartbreak, and severed connections. Nao ends her relationship with Haruka, and Kozue, despite having feelings for him, refuses to speak to him again. Following this fallout, Sora attempts to take her own life, but Haruka saves her and reaffirms his commitment to her happiness, admitting that he truly loves her. In the aftermath, the twins leave the village together, relocating to a foreign country with a family acquaintance, choosing to live quietly and pursue happiness as a couple away from the judgment of society.
Relationships
Sora Kasugano
Haruka shares a deeply complicated and emotionally intense bond with his twin sister, Sora Kasugano. Their relationship begins to shift from familial to romantic following the loss of their parents and their subsequent return to their childhood home. Long hints of emotional dependence and unspoken affection are gradually revealed to be rooted in mutual romantic feelings. Despite knowing the societal taboo surrounding such a relationship, the twins pursue a secret romance that ultimately leads them to leave the village in search of a place where they can live freely.
Akira Amatsume
Haruka and Akira were childhood friends who reconnected after Haruka returned to the countryside. Akira plays a cheerful and supportive role in Haruka’s life during his adjustment to the village and school. In certain story arcs, Haruka develops a romantic connection with her, and their shared history becomes a foundation for a possible relationship.
Nao Yorihime
Nao and Haruka have known each other since childhood and were once very close. Their relationship becomes strained due to a past incident during their early adolescence, which left emotional scars for both of them, especially Sora. Upon reuniting years later in high school, Nao is initially uncertain about how Haruka feels about their shared history. In some routes, their bond is rekindled into a romantic relationship, though it becomes one of the emotional focal points in the arc involving Sora.
Kazuha Migiwa
Haruka’s relationship with Kazuha begins as a friendship formed through school interactions and shared acquaintances. It develops during the storyline involving Kazuha’s concerns over the possibility that Akira may be her half-sister. As Haruka supports her through this emotional period, their relationship has the potential to blossom into something deeper, depending on the narrative path.
