Hak (ハク, Haku), formerly known as Son Hak (ソン ハク, Son Haku), is the male lead in Akatsuki no Yona. Known throughout the Kingdom of Kouka as the “Thunder Beast” due to his exceptional martial arts skills, Hak is the former General and Chief of the Wind Tribe. He is the adopted grandson of Son Mundok, the adoptive brother of Tae-Yeon, and the childhood friend of Princess Yona and Soo-Won.
Sarcastic, nonchalant, and often teasing, Hak served as Yona’s bodyguard from the age of 15 under the appointment of Emperor Il. Despite his playful demeanor, he harbors deep loyalty and care for Yona, as well as unspoken romantic feelings for her.

Hak is a tall and well-built young man with striking features that complement his powerful and commanding presence. He has short, messy black hair, sharp blue eyes, and a confident smile that reflects his sarcastic and teasing nature. His muscular physique and agility make him an imposing figure in battle.
Hak typically wears practical warrior attire, consisting of dark blue clothing layered with a black coat and arm guards. His outfit is designed for mobility and protection, suiting his role as both a warrior and bodyguard. The practicality of his clothing contrasts with his easygoing personality, reflecting his readiness to fight at any moment.
Personality
Hak is a sarcastic and nonchalant individual with a sharp wit and a penchant for teasing those around him, particularly Yona. Beneath his playful exterior, Hak is fiercely loyal and protective, driven by an unshakable sense of duty and responsibility. Despite his apparent carefreeness, Hak is deeply perceptive and thoughtful, often putting the well-being of others above his own.
Hak’s feelings for Yona have existed since their childhood, though he initially suppresses them out of respect for her position and his friendship with Soo-Won. After Soo-Won’s betrayal, Hak becomes Yona’s steadfast protector, risking his life to save her and later accompanying her on her journey to find the Four Dragon Warriors. While initially overprotective, Hak grows to respect Yona’s determination and strength, ultimately taking pride in her growth as a warrior and leader.
Hak also struggles with emotional scars from Soo-Won’s betrayal, having once envisioned his life as serving both Yona and Soo-Won. His loyalty to Soo-Won and the Wind Tribe made the betrayal especially painful, leaving Hak grappling with feelings of hurt and anger. However, over time, Hak begins to forge new bonds with Yona’s group, learning to trust others and realizing he is not alone in his mission to protect her.

Childhood and Early Role
Hak grew up in the Wind Tribe, raised by his adoptive grandfather, Son Mundok, the tribe’s former chief. As a child, he befriended both Princess Yona and Soo-Won, forming a close bond with the two. At the age of 15, Hak was appointed General of the Wind Tribe and Yona’s bodyguard by Emperor Il, a role he accepted with pride and devotion.
Soo-Won’s Betrayal
Hak’s life changed drastically when Soo-Won betrayed Yona by murdering Emperor Il and usurping the throne.
