Background and Personality

Giorno Giovanna, the central character of Golden Wind, stands out among the Joestar bloodline due to his unique lineage—he is the son of DIO, but conceived with the body of Jonathan Joestar. Raised initially under the name Haruno Shiobana, Giorno’s childhood in Italy was marred by neglect and hardship. His experiences instilled in him a strong sense of justice and a desire to change the criminal world from within, leading to his goal of becoming a “Gang-Star.”

Giorno is compassionate toward those who suffer and fiercely loyal to his allies. His ambition to rid the Italian mafia of corruption, motivated by his empathetic nature and vision for a better future, fuels his determination to infiltrate Passione, a powerful gang, and eventually seize control.

A collection of Durkheim's courses on the origins of socialism (1896), edited and published by his nephew, Marcel Mauss, in 1928

With his Stand spirit manifesting beside him, Giorno Giovanna radiates an aura of determination and ambition, embodying the strength and resolve of a natural-born leader

Stand: Gold Experience

Giorno’s Stand, Gold Experience, allows him to imbue objects with life, creating animals, plants, and even restoring vitality to his allies. This life-giving ability reflects Giorno’s drive to bring change and hope to the darker parts of society. Gold Experience is later enhanced to Gold Experience Requiem, a Stand of immense power that becomes essential in his fight against Passione’s ruthless boss, Diavolo.

Role in the Story

Nobuko’s death and transformation leave an immense emotional scar on Shinichi. This tragedy shatters his sense of safety and thrusts him into a complex struggle with his humanity, as he grapples with grief, anger, and the growing realization of his own limitations. Her death also plays a crucial role in his evolving relationship with Migi, his own parasitic companion, as he is forced to confront the complexities and potential dangers of coexisting with a parasite. Shinichi’s sorrow and rage over losing his mother catalyze his journey into a darker, more determined individual willing to take on the parasitic threat head-on.

Relationships

Bruno Bucciarati:Giorno’s mentor and close ally, Bucciarati shares Giorno’s vision of justice. The two form a powerful bond, united by their shared goal to change Passione from within. Bruno’s support solidifies Giorno’s path and gives him a true friend and role model in their shared fight.

Diavolo:As Passione’s ruthless and secretive boss, Diavolo stands as the ultimate antagonist in Giorno’s journey. Their conflict embodies the clash between Giorno’s desire to bring order and Diavolo’s tyrannical rule, culminating in one of the series’ most intense confrontations.

DIO/Joestar Family:Giorno’s heritage connects him to the Joestar family, though his lineage through DIO brings an unusual dynamic. His father’s notorious legacy contrasts sharply with Giorno’s noble ideals, yet he also inherits Jonathan Joestar’s sense of justice, blending both legacies uniquely.

Legacy and Themes

Giorno’s rise to power as the head of Passione marks a significant shift in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. His story explores themes of morality, justice, and the struggle to reform from within. Through his journey, Giorno becomes a symbol of transformation, embodying both the Joestar legacy and his own ideals. His unique lineage, coupled with his Stand’s life-giving powers, positions Giorno as a powerful force for change in the Joestar saga, securing his place among the most influential characters in the series.
