Gajeel Redfox (ガジル・レッドフォックス, Gajiru Reddofokkusu) is an Iron Dragon Slayer and a prominent member of the Fairy Tail Guild. Previously, he was an S-Class Mage of the Phantom Lord Guild, where he initially served as an antagonist to Fairy Tail before eventually becoming one of its most loyal and powerful members. After Fairy Tail’s temporary disbandment, Gajeel joined the Magic Council and became the captain of the Custody Enforcement Unit, but later returned to Fairy Tail following the defeat of the Avatar cult. Gajeel, like other Dragon Slayers, was sent to the future to help in the defeat of Acnologia. In the year X793, Gajeel and Levy McGarden are revealed to be expecting a child together.

Appearance
Gajeel is a tall, muscular man with long, spiky black hair. His signature feature is the array of piercings across his face, which include metal studs above his eyes and across his nose, and his sharp, dragon-like teeth. Gajeel typically dresses in a dark, punk-like style, wearing a sleeveless tunic and baggy pants with boots. His appearance mirrors his tough, hardened personality, but it also symbolizes his iron-based magic.
In addition to his dark and intimidating look, Gajeel is often depicted with a gruff and scowling expression, fitting his early role as a brutal member of Phantom Lord. However, his softer, more caring side becomes more evident as his character develops, especially in his interactions with Levy.

Personality
Gajeel is initially portrayed as a violent, cold-hearted, and ruthless individual, especially during his time in Phantom Lord, where he had little care for others’ well-being. His early encounters with Fairy Tail are marked by his brutal attacks on the guild, especially his destruction of Shadow Gear, the team of Levy McGarden, Jet, and Droy.
However, after joining Fairy Tail, Gajeel undergoes significant character development. He reveals a more honorable and protective side, becoming deeply loyal to the guild and its members. His initial conflicts with Natsu Dragneel turn into a fierce rivalry, and over time, Gajeel becomes one of Natsu’s most trusted comrades. His friendship with Panther Lily, his Exceed partner, further highlights his growth as a compassionate and dependable individual.
Gajeel also displays a softer side when it comes to Levy McGarden, showing care and affection for her in his own gruff way. Their relationship grows throughout the series, and by the end of the main storyline, Gajeel’s love for Levy becomes more pronounced, especially with the reveal that the two are expecting a child together in the sequel series.
Gajeel is often seen as the strong, silent type, preferring to act rather than talk, but when he does speak, his words tend to carry weight. He is also a pragmatist and can be more level-headed than some of his Fairy Tail comrades.
