Fudou Nomura

Fudou Nomura (納村 不道, Nomura Fudō) is the central protagonist of the anime and manga series Armed Girl’s Machiavellism. A transfer student with a rebellious spirit, he is known for his exceptional combat skills and unyielding independence. Upon enrolling at the previously all-girls Aichi Symbiosis Academy, Nomura quickly draws attention for defying the strict rules enforced by the academy’s elite group, the Supreme Five Swords.

His arrival sets the stage for much of the series’ conflict, as he challenges both the academy’s system of control and the formidable fighters who uphold it. Throughout the story, Nomura’s wit, adaptability, and unorthodox fighting techniques make him both a disruptive presence and a catalyst for change within the school.

Appearance in Anime

Fudou Nomura grew up as an orphan with no recollection of his parents. He was later adopted by his grandfather, a master swordsman who recognized potential in him and subjected him to relentless training in the art of the sword. While this upbringing forged Nomura into a formidable fighter, the severity of the training left lasting physical and psychological scars. Disillusioned by the suffering it caused, he abandoned the sword and developed his own distinctive hand-to-hand combat style as an alternative.

Nomura’s rebellious streak became widely known after a massive brawl in which he fought against more than forty individuals. Although he emerged victorious, he sustained the most severe injuries and was hospitalized. The incident led to his expulsion from his previous school and eventual transfer to the Private Aichi Symbiosis Academy, an institution infamous for enforcing strict behavioral discipline.

Prior to his transfer, Nomura’s strength had already drawn attention from Kirukiru Amou, a powerful fighter who attempted to recruit him as her subordinate. Nomura rejected the offer, which resulted in a violent confrontation between the two. Though Nomura suffered significant injuries during their clash, Amou’s lasting resentment toward him implies that he may have challenged her in an unexpected way, earning her hostility and a refusal to acknowledge his abilities.

Appearance

Fudou Nomura is portrayed as a tall and strikingly handsome young man with black hair and green eyes. His physique reflects years of rigorous training, giving him a well-toned and athletic build. Scars mark his back, a testament to the harsh and often brutal methods he endured under his grandfather’s instruction.

Nomura is most often seen wearing the Aichi Symbiosis Academy school uniform, which he dons throughout the series. His appearance underscores both his disciplined upbringing and his resilient nature, contrasting the controlled environment of the academy with his own rebellious spirit.

Personality

Fudou Nomura is depicted as a laid-back and approachable individual with a lighthearted sense of humor. Despite being feared for his reputation as a delinquent, he is inherently kind and avoids unnecessary conflict, often showing a pacifistic nature. Violence is something he resorts to only when defending himself or protecting others, reflecting his preference for resolution without aggression.

Although trained extensively in swordsmanship, Nomura deliberately avoids wielding a sword, both out of principle and out of concern for harming others. Instead, he relies on his self-developed unarmed combat style. His loyalty to friends is a defining trait, and he is quick to come to their aid in times of danger.

Nomura’s strong will and independence prevent him from submitting to authority, often putting him at odds with the rigid rules of Aichi Symbiosis Academy. At the same time, he demonstrates a forgiving nature, willing to reconcile with those who betray him if their remorse is genuine or their intentions understandable. These qualities combine to make him both a disruptive force within the academy and a dependable ally to those who earn his trust.

Abilities and Powers

Martial Arts Mastery
Trained rigorously in martial arts from childhood, Nomura is an accomplished hand-to-hand combatant. Although originally skilled in the Jigen-ryū sword style, his resentment toward his grandfather and master led him to abandon swordsmanship entirely. Instead, he adapted his training into a unique self-taught unarmed fighting style, which he employs throughout the series. His strength has allowed him to overcome highly skilled members of the Supreme Five Swords, such as Rin Onigawara and Mary Kikakujou, as well as to defeat groups of dozens in large-scale brawls. Despite this, Tsukuyo Inaba has noted that he never fully mastered the Jigen-ryū style.

Madan (魔弾, “Magic Bullet”)
Nomura’s signature technique, Madan, uses concentrated muscle control to focus energy into his palm and release it as a powerful shockwave. This blunt-force strike is strong enough to halt a swinging log and repel opponents at close range. However, it is ineffective against soft-bodied or non-solid targets, such as Kyobo the bear, and requires Nomura to be in close quarters to execute, leaving him vulnerable to long-range weapons. A more advanced version of the technique, taught by Tsukuyo Inaba, requires cooperation between two users to reach its full potential.

Enhanced Strength
Nomura possesses extraordinary physical power from years of harsh training. He can deliver devastating punches and kicks, wrestle large opponents such as Kyobo in sumo-style grappling, and lift massive weights with ease. His strength allows him to neutralize traps, including stopping a log trap with his Madan strike.

Enhanced Speed and Reflexes
Nomura demonstrates remarkable agility and reaction speed, moving faster than the eye can follow in combat. He applies Shimmering Cloud, a Jigen-ryū movement technique, to evade attacks and reposition fluidly. He has been shown catching projectiles, such as Misogi’s dart, and narrowly evading Amou Kirukiru’s auto-counter strikes.

Enhanced Endurance
Nomura’s durability allows him to endure prolonged and punishing battles. He has withstood repeated sword thrusts from Mary Kikakujou, severe injuries inflicted by a bear, and even extended torture without yielding. His resilience was noted by both Mary and Rin, who recognized the scars on his back as evidence of his painful past.

Swordsmanship
Though he refuses to wield a sword, Nomura retains deep knowledge of swordsmanship techniques from his Jigen-ryū training. He can analyze and identify Japanese sword techniques by observation alone, though his familiarity with Western fencing remains limited.

Blade-Resistant Gloves
Nomura wears Kevlar gloves, which he uses to block or deflect sword strikes. Vertical blows can be stopped with the back of his hand, while horizontal slashes can be diverted with his palms. However, the gloves offer limited protection against thrusting or piercing attacks.

Relationships

Rin Onigawara
Nomura’s relationship with Rin began on hostile terms after he openly resisted the academy’s rules and her attempts to discipline him. Their initial conflict culminated in a duel, during which Nomura defeated her, though an accident led to an unintended kiss that embarrassed them both. Rin often shows jealousy when other girls approach Nomura and demonstrates traits of a classic tsundere.

Despite their rocky beginning, Rin gradually came to trust Nomura as a comrade. They bonded through shared confessions of their difficult pasts, with Rin revealing her tragic childhood and Nomura opening up about his life as an orphan and the abuse he endured from his grandfather. Rin eventually developed romantic feelings for him, which Nomura seems to recognize but chooses not to address directly. He respects her deeply and is protective of her, notably confronting Satori Tamaba after she made Rin cry. Their bond is further highlighted when Rin expresses her determination to follow Nomura wherever he goes, even as he attempts to leave the academy.

Mary Kikakujou
Mary initially regarded Nomura as no different from the other male students, whom she assumed to be perverse. However, her perception changed after Nomura consistently rejected her attempts to provoke him with sexual coercion, demonstrating his integrity. Following her defeat, Mary declared herself his supervisor alongside Rin and began to develop feelings for him, which became apparent through her jealousy toward other girls who sought his attention.

Mary’s relationship with Nomura was further complicated when Satori blackmailed him with incriminating photographs, leading Mary to lash out in anger until she discovered the scars on his back. After the misunderstanding was resolved, she expressed her willingness to give herself to him, though he once again refused her advances. While she often masks her feelings behind teasing or dramatics, Mary holds deep respect for Nomura and continues to support him.

Warabi Hanasaka
Nomura’s interactions with Warabi began when she kidnapped Masukodera, prompting him to challenge her and her followers, including her bear, Kyobo. After defeating her, he earned her respect for both his courage and strength. Unlike Rin and Mary, Warabi does not openly pursue a romantic interest in Nomura, though certain interactions between them suggest a degree of underlying affection. She generally treats him as a respected rival rather than a potential partner.

Satori Tamaba
Nomura initially struggled to understand Satori, whose unpredictable and manipulative behavior made her difficult to read. Their confrontations included moments of forced intimacy, such as when she blackmailed him with a kiss and used compromising tactics to unsettle him. Despite this, Nomura eventually managed to defeat her after discerning her fighting style.

Following her loss, Satori began to show subtle signs of affection toward Nomura, such as carrying him to safety when he collapsed and protecting him when he was vulnerable. While she continues to tease him, her actions reveal genuine care, particularly during moments of danger when she expresses a desire for him to protect her.

Tsukuyo Inaba
Nomura’s first encounter with Tsukuyo left him shaken, as her sword speed surpassed his perception. Both having roots in the Jigen-ryū style, they shared a mutual understanding of swordsmanship, though Tsukuyo referred to him as “broken goods” due to his incomplete training. She frequently criticizes his flaws in combat and grows frustrated when he dismisses her advice, yet her emotional outbursts around him reveal a more vulnerable side.

Despite their friction, Nomura saved Tsukuyo during an encounter with Amou Kirukiru, an act that left her flustered and reconsidering her perception of him. Following his victory over Amou, Tsukuyo offered to become his martial arts instructor, teaching him an improved form of his Madan technique. Their relationship remains a mix of teacher-student rivalry and reluctant camaraderie, often complicated by comedic misunderstandings, such as when she attacked him out of embarrassment after being caught in the male bath.
