Eru comes from the prestigious Chitanda family, who own vast agricultural lands and are highly respected in their town. She was raised with strict etiquette and traditional values, shaping her into a polite and graceful young woman. Due to her family’s status, she carries a strong sense of responsibility and holds herself to high expectations.

Her father once told her that “a proper lady should not raise her voice in public,” which explains her typically soft-spoken demeanor. However, when overcome with excitement or curiosity, she forgets this rule, leading to unintentionally intense moments where she invades people’s personal space.

Eru’s interest in the Classic Literature Club stems from a mysterious event in her childhood, involving her uncle, Sekitani Jun. This mystery serves as a catalyst for the series’ early plot, leading her to seek Houtarou Oreki’s help in uncovering the truth.

Eru has a petite frame and long, straight black hair that reaches down to her waist, with full bangs that slightly cover her large, lavender-colored eyes. Her expressive eyes are often highlighted, especially when she becomes excited about a mystery a trait that frequently overwhelms those around her.
