Early Life & Education
Emma Vardy grew up watchingfootballinSouthampton. She won ascholarshipto the Royal College of Music, but decided to pursue acareerinJournalisminstead. She attended University College Falmouth, graduating with a Master’s degree inBroadcast Journalism.[9]
Career
Emma has covered the Cricket World Cup,Premier Leaguefootball,Champions Leaguefootball, the Rugby Lions Tour andFormula Oneauto racing.[2]
She covers bothNorthern Irelandand theRepublic of Irelandfor flagship news programmes. Her reports appear on the BBC Six and Ten o’clock news as well as onBBC World, the Today programme and other outlets.[2]

In 2006, Emma Vardy was nominated byFalmouth Universityas the Student Television Journalist of the Year.[11]
Controversy
In 2020, Vardy appeared in a spoof sex scene.
She filmed the clip with her amateur footballer boyfriendAaron Adam as part of a parody of Queen classic I Want to Break Free. The sex scene was one of the segments in a video made by Adams and friends from his team to raise money for NHS Charities Together’s Covid-19 appeal. The finished film was posted on Adams’ Twitter profile and the club’s Facebook page, with the message: ‘So here it is. Four weeks of lockdown… no football… and this is what happens.’[18][19]
The video was then edited and reposted, this time with the top journalist’s bed scene removed.
A BBC spokesperson told Sunday Life: “This was intended to be light-hearted, but Emma accepts it was inappropriate and has removed the clip.”[19]
Personal Life
According to his Twitter profile, @Mr_Bumcheeks, Vardy’s boyfriend Aaron Adams lives inBelfast,Northern Ireland. He is part of amateur football team Belfast Ravens.[18]
