Appearance in Anime

Edward Newgate grew up as an orphan on the impoverished island of Sphinx. Despite his challenging upbringing, Newgate became a pirate, driven not by personal greed but by a desire to support those in need. In his early years, he joined the legendary Rocks Pirates, a crew known for its infamy and unparalleled power, alongside other future legends like Kaidou and Big Mom.

After the disbandment of the Rocks Pirates, Newgate formed his own crew, the Whitebeard Pirates, which he built into a powerful and respected family. Whitebeard’s compassion and loyalty to his crew were unmatched, as he viewed his subordinates as his sons. Over the years, his strength and influence earned him a position among the Four Emperors, and his reputation as the “Strongest Man in the World” became a cornerstone of his legacy.
