Dr. Gillings is the chairman and CEO of Quintiles Transnational Corp., a leading pharmaceutical services company which he founded in 1982. Prior to his entrepreneurial venture, he spent over 15 years as a professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was honored with an Honorary Doctor of Science degree in May 2001. Recognized for his contributions to the pharmaceutical industry, Dr. Gillings was appointed Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire by the Queen in 2004. He was also entrusted with the role of Pro-Chancellor of Southampton University in 2006. Dr. Gillings holds a diploma in mathematical statistics from Cambridge University (1967) and earned his Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Exeter, England, in 1972.
