Denise Huskins
Denise Huskins, victim of a kidnapping by Matthew Muller, initially faced skepticism from police, who questioned the authenticity of her story. However, in September 2015, she came forward, revealing that she had indeed been kidnapped, sexually assaulted, and held captive for three days. Following her release, Huskins filed a claim against the city and three police officers for failing to take her report seriously and endangering her life by cutting off contact with her boyfriend, Aaron Quinn, who had alerted authorities to the kidnapping. Months later, federal investigators identified Muller as the prime suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest. Muller was apprehended in Lake Tahoe and found in possession of incriminating evidence. He pleaded not guilty to the charges but ultimately pleaded guilty in September 2016. He is scheduled to be sentenced on January 19, facing a maximum penalty of life in prison and a $250,000 fine.
