Deniece Williams

Deniece Williams, the acclaimed singer-songwriter, is renowned for her timeless soul classic “Free,” released in 1976, alongside chart-toppers like “It’s Gonna Take a Miracle” and “Let’s Hear it for The Boy.” Originally aspiring to become an anesthetist, Williams abandoned her college pursuits due to academic struggles. She found her calling in music, performing at venues like Casino Royal while concurrently serving as a ward clerk at a Chicago hospital. Williams has garnered multiple Grammy Awards, including the coveted Best Female Soul Gospel Performance in 1987 for her rendition of “I Surrender All.” Her personal life includes marriages to Brad Westering and later Christopher Joy, and she is a proud mother to four sons: Logan, Kendrick, Forrest, and Kevin. Notably, she collaborated frequently in captivating duets with the legendary Johnny Mathis.[1]
