Early life
Deitra is a native of Chicago, IL. At an early age, she developed a fascination and respect for storms. She knew in elementary school that she wanted to become a Meteorologist.
Education
Deitra earned her Meteorology Degree with a minor in Broadcast Journalism from Northern Illinois University. Additionally, she obtained a broadcast certificate from the Illinois Center for Broadcasting.
Career
Deitra has showcased her meteorological expertise across diverse regions, from the picturesque Black Hills of South Dakota to the vibrant birthplace of Mardi Gras, Mobile, AL. Prior to joining the Spectrum team, she served as the Weekend Morning Meteorologist at WAVY-TV in the Hampton Roads area of VA. Deitra is passionate about forecasting and ensuring people stay informed about the weather. One of her most unforgettable moments occurred on Christmas Day in 2012 when she guided viewers through a tornado that struck the city of Mobile while on air.[3]
