Deborah Fallows

Deborah Fallows is a writer and linguist who has contributed to publications such as The Atlantic, National Geographic, Slate, and The New York Times, covering topics ranging from language and education to families, work, China, and travel. Her latest book, “Dreaming in Chinese: Mandarin Lessons in Life, Love, and Language,” draws from her three-year stint living and working in China. Currently, Deborah and her husband, James Fallows, are traveling across the US in their small plane, documenting the revival of small towns for The Atlantic’s American Futures project.
