Deborah Birx is the U.S. ambassador-at-large and global coordinator for combatting HIV/AIDS, also serving as the special representative for global health diplomacy at the U.S. Department of State. With over three decades of expertise in HIV/AIDS immunology and global health, she oversees the implementation of PEPFAR, the largest commitment to combat a single disease, and U.S. engagement with the Global Fund. In her diplomatic role, Birx aligns foreign assistance programs with global health priorities, striving for an AIDS-free generation, reducing childhood and maternal deaths, and addressing infectious disease threats.
