Crowley Eusford (クローリー・ユースフォード, Kurōrī Yūsufōdo) is a vampire in the anime and manga series Seraph of the End (Owari no Seraph). A Thirteenth Progenitor among vampires, Crowley is a member of Seventh Progenitor Ferid Bathory’s faction. Known for his formidable strength and laid-back demeanor, Crowley is often accompanied by his loyal allies, Chess Belle and Horn Skuld, and operates primarily in the city of Nagoya.
Appearance
Appearance in Anime
This vampire progenitor has a towering and muscular physique, complemented by narrow shoulders. His hair is a striking mix of maroon bangs, with thick eyebrows framing his intense red eyes, while the rest of his long, dark brown hair is neatly braided and drapes over his shoulder. He wears a single piercing in each ear, adding a touch of refinement to his otherwise imposing appearance. Like all vampires, he has pointed ears and sharp fangs that reflect his status and power.
Unlike standard vampire soldiers, he does not conform to the usual uniform. His attire is a blend of military and medieval elements, evoking the look of a crusader from the thirteenth century. He wears knee-high black boots and white pants, the latter of which are complemented by a black belt and chain at his right side. A white army shirt, unbuttoned at the top to expose his chest, forms the basis of his outfit. On his right arm, he dons a black sleeve and glove, secured to a cape that drapes across his left shoulder and extends down the back of his right shoulder. The sleeve is detailed with two white stripes at its end, adding a distinct mark of nobility. A purple cape trails from his waist to the back of his knees, enhancing his regal and warrior-like appearance. This combination of military and medieval aesthetics reflects his status as a powerful progenitor and his role as a leader in the vampire hierarchy.
Personality
Crowley Eusford is a calm, composed, and fearless individual, known for his exceptional patience and tactical brilliance. His demeanor is rarely shaken, even in the face of terrifying adversaries, such as a corrupted seraph-like creature, against which he shows no hesitation in fighting, despite witnessing its immense power. Crowley is unbothered by physical harm or attacks that would incapacitate others, demonstrating his confidence in his own abilities and resilience. His fighting style is deliberate and controlled; he often parries blows and moves slowly, carefully sizing up opponents, regardless of their number or strength. This calculated approach reflects his self-assurance and expertise, as well as his awareness of his surroundings and the threats he faces. Although he exudes confidence, Crowley also demonstrates a level of care for his allies, as seen when he warns Chess and Horn to be cautious in battle and intervenes to protect Chess from Yu’s attack.
While Crowley’s calm nature may give the impression of indifference, he is highly intelligent and observant, always contemplating the bigger picture. He can quickly identify that the humans’ weapons are not self-made but provided by someone else, and he considers the possibility of a traitor within the vampire ranks—a theory that others might dismiss as ludicrous. This ability to consider the unlikely helps him stay one step ahead of his enemies. His tactical thinking is complemented by a natural curiosity, which drives him to explore and understand situations and opponents. This is evident when he takes interest in Yu’s abilities, particularly his capacity to disarm Crowley and the way his curse mark grows as a result of Yu’s emotional turmoil.
Crowley is also known for his occasional gloating and provocative behavior, especially when he taunts Yu by reminding him that humans are merely a food source for vampires. He takes pleasure in seeing Yu’s frustration and in rubbing in the disparity of their positions, all while marveling at the changes in Yu’s curse mark. Despite his brilliance, Crowley is not above expressing his lack of knowledge when faced with unfamiliar concepts, such as the names of certain demons or the nature of cursed gear attacks, adding an element of unpredictability to his character. His curiosity and strategic mindset make him a formidable and enigmatic opponent, always ready to adapt and counter whatever comes his way.
History
Crowley Eusford has a notable history with Ferid, with the two having shared a complex and likely tumultuous relationship in the vampire world. Their paths have crossed on various occasions, with Crowley often working alongside or against Ferid in their shared goals or differing agendas. At some point, Crowley was stationed at Nagoya City Hall, where he presumably carried out his duties and played a significant role in overseeing the vampire presence in the area. His stationing there places him within a strategic position, one where he could monitor and exert control over the events taking place, particularly in relation to the human-vampire conflict.
Though the specifics of his role in Nagoya are not entirely clear, it is evident that Crowley is not one to shy away from the political and tactical aspects of vampire governance. His involvement in Nagoya would have put him at the heart of important decisions, possibly influencing the direction of vampire operations in the area. With his calm, methodical nature, and deep understanding of strategy, Crowley would have been an asset to his faction, particularly when dealing with complex situations that required careful planning and manipulation of both vampire and human factions.
Powers and Abilities
Crowley Eusford, as a thirteenth progenitor, possesses immense physical strength and supernatural abilities that far exceed those of regular humans. His enhanced strength is apparent when he effortlessly stops a truck plowing into him with a single hand, absorbing the impact without any apparent harm. Furthermore, Crowley demonstrates remarkable feats of power by lifting the vehicle with ease and throwing it some distance. His endurance is equally impressive, able to withstand prolonged assaults and even resist attacks from powerful entities such as a partial seraph. Even when covered by a demon manifestation power, Crowley remains unfazed, showcasing his resilience and toughness.
His reflexes are also extraordinary, as he can instantly react to threats. For example, he catches Gekkouin, a cursed gear manifestation capable of demolishing buildings and powerful enemies, just moments after noticing it. Crowley can block surprise attacks with ease and responds to threats swiftly, demonstrating his incredible combat awareness and skill. His lightning-fast reactions allow him to protect his allies, as seen when he intervenes to prevent Yu from striking Chess.
Crowley wields a first-class vampire weapon, a double-edged silver sword with a golden and purple handle. His sword’s power is further augmented by spikes that stab through his palm, using his own blood to fuel the weapon and enhance his physical abilities. This infusion of power allows Crowley to unleash devastating ranged attacks, capable of causing massive destruction and further solidifying his formidable presence on the battlefield. His combination of raw strength, reflexes, and weapon proficiency makes him an incredibly dangerous opponent in combat.
