Appearance
Human Form
Conny Springer was initially one of the shorter members of the Scout Regiment, standing just below Levi Ackermann by two centimeters. He had a slim build, with bright hazel eyes, and his gray hair was distinctively kept shaved. Conny usually dressed in standard military attire, and would wear the Scout Regiment’s cape during missions.
In casual settings, he was often seen wearing a simple long-sleeve white shirt and brown slacks that reached shin length.
By the year 854, Conny had experienced a growth spurt, making him slightly above average height. His hair grew a bit longer but maintained the same shaved style, and his facial features became more defined. During the Raid on Liberio, Conny wore the revamped black uniform, equipped with belts and support rods for his anti-personnel omni-directional mobility gear.
Pure Titan form
After transforming into a Pure Titan, Conny’s Titan form was tall enough to reach and attack the Armored Titan’s head. It had noticeable skeletal features, with its cheekbones lacking proper flesh, exposing its teeth. The upper lip and skin above it were also absent, leaving its gums visible up to its nose. Despite these monstrous traits, the Titan retained many of Conny’s human characteristics.
When Zeke appeared as a replica in Eren’s Founding Titan, his Beast Titan’s fur was shown in shades of gray, reflecting a more spectral or otherworldly version of his previous form.
Personality
Conny Springer is outgoing and impulsive, often expressing his opinions freely and enjoying the chance to show off his skills, particularly during his cadet days. Despite being in the military, he starts off somewhat unfocused, frequently goofing around and teasing his friends. However, Conny can be a bit dense at times, struggling to grasp complex situations quickly.
As the story progresses and Conny faces multiple life-threatening encounters with Titans, his initial naïveté fades. Although he never becomes completely serious, he grows frustrated with his own limitations and the constant challenges around him. Conny comes to terms with his weaknesses but remains eager to prove himself, particularly when it comes to protecting his friends and family.
His optimism is tested as he endures numerous losses and betrayals, leading him to become more emotionally volatile. The tragedies he experiences—especially his mother’s transformation into a Titan—have a profound effect on his psyche. Initially reacting with denial and attempts to negotiate, Conny eventually grows more prone to anger and frustration. His once cheerful demeanor gives way to a fierce determination to protect the people he cares about, even if it means taking drastic measures.
The trauma of seeing his mother as a Titan reaches a breaking point when Conny considers feeding Falco to her in an attempt to restore her humanity. His desperation leads him to deceive Falco, taking him to his village under the pretense of helping him. When confronted by Armin and Gabi, Conny goes as far as to hold a blade to Falco’s neck. However, after Armin attempts to sacrifice himself, Conny realizes that his mother would want him to be a good soldier, not a murderer. He saves Armin at the last moment, understanding that resorting to such measures would only bring more pain.
Abilities
Conny Springer, bearing the scars of battle with a bloodied face, reflects the harsh realities of war and the heavy toll it takes on the soldiers fighting for their lives.
Conny Springer’s abilities earned him a spot in the top 10 of the 104th Cadet Corps, showcasing his potential as a soldier. Though described as “slow on the uptake,” Conny has a natural talent for sharp turns and quick reactions, which are essential for combat with omni-directional mobility gear. His proficiency with the gear, along with his determination, allowed him to perform well during training and in battle.
Conny’s combat skills are evident when he successfully holds his own against the Jaegerists while defending Annie and Reiner, proving his competence in direct conflict with fellow soldiers. Additionally, during the Battle of Heaven and Earth, Conny demonstrated his agility and adaptability by evading multiple Titans conjured by Ymir Fritz, further highlighting his combat effectiveness and ability to think on his feet under pressure.
Relationships
Sasha Braus and Jean Kirschtein
Conny, Sasha, and Jean are close friends and often work together as part of the Survey Corps. Conny and Sasha are known for their playful antics and lighthearted interactions, frequently providing comic relief, while Jean typically plays the role of the more serious and grounded member of their group. Despite their differences, the three share a strong bond, often depending on each other during difficult times.
Reiner Braun
Conny greatly admired Reiner, viewing him as a big brother figure. During their cadet days, Reiner protected Conny on several occasions, which strengthened Conny’s respect for him. When it was revealed that Reiner was a traitor, Conny was deeply shocked and torn between feelings of betrayal and disbelief. After the battle of Shiganshina, when Conny believed Reiner had been killed, he broke down in tears, indicating that he still saw Reiner as a close friend despite everything. Over time, Conny began to empathize with Reiner’s internal struggles, especially after Conny was forced to kill former comrades, which gave him a deeper understanding of Reiner’s pain.
Ymir
Conny and Ymir shared a somewhat antagonistic relationship, often exchanging insults and teasing each other. Ymir looked down on Conny’s intelligence, while Conny had little patience for her blunt and tactless behavior. Despite their bickering, Conny trusted Ymir enough to feel safe around her even when she was in her Titan form. He even gave her the nickname “ugly” and bossed her around during missions, a sign of his comfort and familiarity with her.
Eren Jaeger
Conny and Eren were initially on good terms, with Conny finding amusement in Eren’s struggles as a cadet. However, they developed a mutual respect over time, and Conny was inspired to join the Scout Regiment partly because of Eren’s determination. Their relationship took a darker turn after Sasha’s death, with Conny starting to resent Eren, feeling that Eren had changed for the worse. Conny even expressed a willingness to fight Eren if necessary. However, in the Paths, Conny renounced his hatred for Eren, realizing that Eren’s actions, including the Rumbling, were partly driven by his desire to protect his friends. Conny tearfully apologized to Eren, acknowledging that he must have been hurt by Sasha’s death as well.
