Chizome Akaguro

Chizome Akaguro, infamously known as the Hero Killer: Stain, is a villain and former vigilante whose ideology and actions left a profound impact on hero society in My Hero Academia. A staunch critic of modern heroism, Stain targeted Pro Heroes he deemed unworthy of the title, killing many and wounding others in his quest to expose the flaws of the hero system.

Stain was the primary antagonist of the Vs. Hero Killer Arc, during which his philosophy influenced both heroes and villains alike. After his imprisonment in Tartarus, Stain escaped during the mass breakout orchestrated by All For One. Despite his villainous past, Stain later sided with the heroes during the Final War Arc, staying true to his ideals of true heroism.

Appearance in anime

Chizome Akaguro was once an idealistic young man inspired by the heroics of All Might. However, his disillusionment with the hero system grew as he observed Pro Heroes prioritizing fame and fortune over altruism. Determined to restore the purity of heroism, he adopted the alias Stendhal and began acting as a vigilante, targeting heroes he deemed corrupt.

Over time, his methods became increasingly extreme, culminating in his transformation into the Hero Killer: Stain. His radical ideology and brutal tactics earned him notoriety and fear throughout hero society. While his actions were condemned, his ideology resonated with individuals such as Shigaraki Tomura and Izuku Midoriya, making him a polarizing figure in the series.

Appearance

Stain is a tall, muscular man with a grotesque appearance that mirrors his fearsome reputation. He has a long, pointed face, sharp teeth, and wild black hair tied back with a bandana. His costume consists of a tattered scarf, armor, and bindings that give him the look of a battle-worn warrior. Stain’s blood-soaked attire and menacing aura reflect his violent philosophy.

Personality

Stain is zealous, uncompromising, and deeply ideological. He believes that heroism should be selfless and pure, deing those who use the title for personal gain. Despite his violent methods, Stain adheres to a strict moral code, sparing individuals he deems as true heroes, such as Izuku Midoriya and Tenya Iida’s brother, Tensei.

Stain’s single-minded pursuit of his ideals often alienates him from others, but his conviction and charisma inspire both fear and admiration. While ruthless, he shows respect toward individuals who embody genuine heroism.

Despite being defeated and captured, his ideology spreads, influencing characters across the series.

  • Escape from Tartarus
During All For One’s assault on Tartarus, Stain escapes alongside many other villains. However, unlike most escapees, Stain refrains from rejoining the ranks of villainy, observing the chaos and waiting for an opportunity to act in line with his beliefs.

  • Final War Arc
In the Final War Arc, Stain aligns with the heroes, proving his commitment to genuine heroism. His actions demonstrate his complex nature, showcasing that his ultimate goal is the restoration of a society built on true heroism, even if it means siding with former enemies.
