Chidori Takashiro (高城 千鳥, Takashiro Chidori) is one of the main characters and serves as the tritagonist of the anime and manga series Kiznaiver. She is a member of the group known as the Kiznaivers, a select group of individuals connected through a system that shares their physical and emotional pain.
Chidori is a second-year student in Class 2-A at Sugomori High School, where she attends alongside the other Kiznaivers. Known for her emotional awareness and loyalty to her friends, she plays a crucial role in the story’s exploration of human connection, emotional vulnerability, and the complexity of personal bonds.
Personality

Appearance in Anime
Chidori Takashiro is portrayed as emotional, empathetic, and slightly clumsy, often taking on the role of the caring friend within the group of Kiznaivers. She displays a deep concern for the well-being of others, particularly toward Katsuhira Agata, her childhood friend. She frequently tries to cheer up those around her and becomes visibly flustered when faced with emotionally charged situations. Her strong emotional nature sometimes overwhelms others, as noted by Tsuguhito Yuta, who once remarked that she was “too heavy” emotionally. When particularly embarrassed or irritated, Chidori tends to respond by physically lashing out typically with a hit directed at the person responsible for upsetting her.
She was nicknamed “Two-Goody Shoes” by Noriko Sonozaki due to her tendency to help others even when it puts her at a disadvantage. Chidori often assumes a caretaker role, such as cooking meals for both Katsuhira and Hajime Tenga, and going out of her way to confront teachers and bullies on Katsuhira’s behalf. Her protective instincts are strongest when it comes to Katsuhira, as she knows he won’t stand up for himself due to his emotional numbness.
Chidori harbors romantic feelings for Katsuhira, having fallen in love with him during their childhood. She yearns for the return of the kind and cheerful version of him that she once knew. When she realizes that her feelings may not be reciprocated, she becomes deeply hurt, but ultimately accepts the situation with emotional maturity. Chidori comes to understand that forcing her emotions onto him would be selfish, and instead chooses to support him from afar, showing both vulnerability and quiet strength.
Appearance
Chidori Takashiro is a teenage girl of average height with a slim build and modest physique. She has distinctive crimson-red hair that matches her red eyes, giving her a vibrant and recognizable look. Her hair is typically styled in a high ponytail, secured with a yellow scrunchie, and she also wears a small yellow hair clip on the right side of her face to keep her bangs in place. Her overall appearance is modest and understated, reflecting her grounded and sincere personality.
Background
Chidori has known Katsuhira since childhood and holds deep affection for him, both as a friend and someone she once loved. She remembers the kind and lively Katsuhira before his emotional detachment began, and her lingering love is rooted in the hope of seeing that version of him return. As the Kizna System begins to unravel the emotional walls of its subjects, Chidori is forced to confront her feelings and the reality that Katsuhira may never reciprocate them.
Over time, Chidori matures and comes to understand that her attempts to force a connection with Katsuhira would be selfish. While the rejection hurts, she accepts it gracefully, continuing to care for him without expectation.
Relationships
Katsuhira Agata
Katsuhira is Chidori’s childhood friend and the person she is emotionally closest to. Having known him since preschool, Chidori developed feelings for Katsuhira long before he lost his ability to feel physical and emotional pain. Despite the emotional distance created by his condition, she continued to care deeply for him. Her affection remained unrequited, especially after Noriko Sonozaki entered the picture, whose mysterious connection to Katsuhira caused Chidori to feel jealous and insecure. Nonetheless, she remained loyal and protective, often putting his well-being above her own.
Hajime Tenga
Chidori and Tenga start off as mere classmates with limited interaction. Early on, Chidori views Tenga as somewhat shallow, especially after he makes a blunt comment about her physique. However, after Katsuhira moves in with Tenga, the two begin spending more time together. As they become more familiar, Chidori begins to see Tenga’s deeper qualities and his genuine concern for others, particularly for Katsuhira and herself.
Tsuguhito Yuta
Chidori shares a friendly rapport with Yuta, especially in the early stages of the Kizna System experiments, where she often interacts with him alongside Tenga and Nico. She once complimented him on his smile, referring to his past struggles with weight during junior high, showing her ability to empathize with and encourage others regardless of their past insecurities.
Nico Niiyama
Chidori is shown to get along well with Nico, forming a natural and easy friendship with her. Despite their differing personalities—Chidori being more grounded and Nico being eccentric the two share a positive and cooperative relationship, often seen supporting one another throughout their shared experiences in the Kiznaiver project.
Hajime Tenga
Tenga often clashes with Noriko, frequently expressing his frustration and distrust toward her. He dislikes how she controls the Kiznaivers’ lives and how calm and aloof she remains during emotional conflicts. Noriko largely ignores his hostility, simply asking him to speak more politely. Tenga’s resentment is also fueled by his unrequited feelings for Chidori and his belief that Noriko is coming between Chidori and Katsuhira. By the end of the series, Tenga appears to have moved past his anger, even teasing Noriko and Katsuhira for being affectionate with each other.
Yoshiharu Hisomu
Hisomu treats Noriko with politeness and respect, much like he does with everyone. While their relationship isn’t explored in depth, there are no signs of hostility or conflict between them.
