Blitz Talker

Blitz Talker (ブリッツ・トーカー, Burittsu Tōkā), is a secondary character from the cyberpunk hard-boiled manga and anime Code・Babylon. A middle-aged ex-detective turned bounty hunter and mercenary, Blitz is a hardened veteran of the Flashlight Detective Office, an agency specializing in hunting down demi-humans and synthetic monsters. With his gruff demeanor, no-nonsense attitude, and preference for working in the shadows, he embodies the classic noir antihero, complete with a tough-guy speech pattern and a cynical outlook on the world.

Blitz is known for his mastery of firearms, using specialized bullets designed for cyborg targets, as well as his signature Gravity Bomb, a weapon capable of immobilizing or crushing enemies with its intense gravitational force. Despite his outwardly cold and jaded nature, Blitz possesses a hidden sense of justice, which often puts him at odds with his morally ambiguous world.

Background

https://everipedia.io/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/shibuya.jpg

Appearance in anime

In Code・Babylon, Blitz Talker was once a respected detective, working in a futuristic metropolis filled with cybernetic enhancements, corrupt corporations, and artificial beings that blurred the line between humanity and machine. He was the partner of the story’s main protagonist, but due to personal tragedies and betrayals, he left the force and became a bounty hunter and mercenary-for-hire.

As a veteran of countless gritty cases and deadly encounters, Blitz grew disillusioned with the justice system, believing that true justice no longer existed in a world controlled by powerful corporations and synthetic monsters. He began operating outside the law, taking jobs from both legal and illegal sources, so long as they aligned with his own personal code.

When the Catastrophe occurred, Blitz was transported into the real world, where he quickly realized that he was nothing more than a fictional character in a story crafted for entertainment. Unlike many of the other “Created” characters, Blitz does not experience an identity crisis his life had always been full of betrayals, deceptions, and harsh truths, making him more accepting of his new reality. However, upon learning that his beloved daughter, Erina, was written to die in his story, he is consumed with anger toward his creator, Shunma Suruga, and initially sides with Altair, believing that writers should not have the power to dictate life and death.

Appearance

Blitz is a rugged, middle-aged man with short, messy gray hair and a rough beard, giving him the weathered look of a hardened detective. His face is often shadowed under his hat, adding to his mysterious and brooding aesthetic. His narrow, piercing eyes reflect both his extensive experience and the weight of his past.

He wears a long black trench coat, often seen emerging from the shadows like a noir detective straight out of a classic crime novel. His outfit is a mix of old-school detective attire and futuristic cyberpunk elements, complete with holsters for his specialized firearms and cybernetic enhancements.

Personality

Blitz Talker is cynical, jaded, and world-weary, fitting the archetype of a hard-boiled detective. He speaks in short, clipped sentences, often peppering his dialogue with tough-guy one-liners. His gruff exterior and detached demeanor make him seem cold and uncaring, but deep down, he possesses a strong sense of loyalty and a hidden moral code.

While he prefers to operate alone, Blitz is not completely devoid of emotions, particularly when it comes to his daughter, Erina. Her tragic fate in his story fuels his resentment toward his creator, making him one of the most conflicted “Created” characters. Unlike others who struggle with their fictional existence, Blitz simply accepts it as just another cruel twist in life, further reinforcing his hardened persona.

Despite his bitterness, Blitz is not without humor, though his humor is dry, dark, and heavily sarcastic. He enjoys playing the role of the mysterious figure emerging from the darkness, often making dramatic entrances just for the aesthetic appeal. His dramatic tendencies sometimes border on the self-indulgent, but they add to his grizzled detective charm.

Role in the Story

  • Joining Altair’s Side
Initially, Blitz sides with Altair, believing that creators have too much power over their characters. His anger toward his own creator, Shunma Suruga, stems from the fact that she wrote his daughter, Erina, to die, leaving him powerless to change her fate. He sees Altair’s revolution as a means of rebelling against cruel authors, seeking a world where characters can defy their creators’ wills.

  • Confrontation with His Creator, Shunma Suruga
Blitz’s turning point comes when he finally meets Shunma Suruga, the writer who created him. Instead of fear or regret, Suruga greets him with a smirk and an unwavering attitude, stating that his suffering is part of what makes him compelling. This forces Blitz to reevaluate his perspective, realizing that even if she created his pain, she also created his strength. Suruga then offers him a way to reunite with his daughter, showing that, as a writer, she is willing to change his story, not out of fear, but because she acknowledges the complexity of her own creations. This revelation leads Blitz to abandon Altair, choosing instead to fight for his own future rather than cling to the past.

  • Turning Against Altair and Fighting for His Own Path
After realizing that Altair’s rebellion would only bring more destruction, Blitz turns against her, proving that he is not a pawn in anyone’s story—not his creator’s, and not Altair’s. He ultimately fights for himself and his daughter, showing that even fictional characters can carve their own destinies.

Relationships

Altair
Initially aligned with Altair, Blitz views her as a means to an end—a way to defy the control of creators. However, as he witnesses her true nature, he realizes that she is not fighting for justice, but for total annihilation, leading him to betray her.

Shunma Suruga (His Creator)
Blitz resents Suruga at first, blaming her for the death of his daughter. However, their meeting challenges his worldview, as he comes to understand that creation is a process, not an act of cruelty. Suruga, in turn, shows that she respects Blitz as more than just a fictional character, ultimately rewriting his story so that he can see Erina again.

Erina (His Daughter)
Erina is the most important person in Blitz’s life, and her tragic fate is what drives his initial anger and cynicism. When given the chance to have her back, Blitz finally finds peace and purpose, proving that his love for his daughter outweighs his bitterness toward his creator.

Trivia

    • His name, “Blitz Talker,” is a reference to his fast-paced, no-nonsense way of speaking.
      • He often makes dramatic entrances, appearing from the shadows just for effect.
      • Despite being a noir detective, he is one of the most tactical fighters among the “Created.”
      • He is one of the few “Created” characters to get a rewritten ending, thanks to his creator.

    Legacy

      • Blitz Talker is a classic noir antihero, embodying cynicism, justice, and the struggle for free will. His journey from revenge to redemption makes him one of Re:Creators’ most complex and memorable characters, proving that even fictional figures can challenge fate and create their own endings.
