Appearance
Ogre Form
As an ogre, Benimaru had a tall, burly build that exuded strength and intimidation. He possessed flame-like, lightly wavy crimson hair, from which two large jet-black horns protruded. One of his most distinctive features was the pair of red, tear-like markings flowing down from the bottom of his eyes over his cheeks—these markings remain constant throughout all his evolutions. His eyes were sharp and fierce, with orange-red irises that added to his commanding presence. Benimaru’s attire consisted of black clothing with a thick woolen collar, covered by armor matching his red-black color scheme. The armor design was inspired by a human warrior who had visited their tribe centuries ago. He wielded a traditional Japanese-style katana, further adding to his warrior image.
In the anime adaptation, his skin tone had a reddish hue, complementing his fiery hair, and his large canines were visible, peeking out from his mouth and enhancing his formidable appearance.
Kijin Form
After evolving into a Kijin, Benimaru’s physique transformed. His height shrunk to around 180 centimeters, giving him a leaner build and the appearance of a young man in his early twenties or younger. His crimson hair became straighter and more pointed, while his horns shrunk slightly, becoming narrower and glowing more brilliantly, resembling polished obsidian. Benimaru’s eyes softened, making him appear more laid-back and confident at the same time. His skin tone shifted to that of a human, making him almost indistinguishable from regular humans, provided his horns and drastically increased aura were hidden.
Thanks to the craftsmanship of Shuna and a team of weavers—goblinas and dwarves—Benimaru, along with his companions, received new clothing and armor. Benimaru’s attire included a striking blood-red kimono that matched his powerful aura, along with a new katana to complement his refined appearance.
Chronology
Orc Invasion of the Ogre Village
Benimaru is introduced during theA Disturbance in the Forestarc as the young prince of the Ogre Tribe. His village was attacked by 10,000 Orcs led by the Orc Lord Geld and the Majin Footman, forcing Benimaru and a small group of survivors to flee.
Meeting with Rimuru
Having lost his entire tribe, Benimaru, along with five other survivors, encountered a patrol of Goblin Riders and Rimuru. Due to a misunderstanding caused by Rimuru wearing the Anti-Magic Mask, Benimaru and his group attacked Rimuru out of frustration. The conflict was resolved peacefully thanks to Benimaru’s sister and Rimuru healing everyone with his potions. They were then welcomed into Rimuru’s Goblin village, where a feast was about to begin.
After learning of Benimaru’s circumstances, Rimuru offered him and his group temporary refuge and proposed an alliance to fight the orcs together. Initially, Benimaru hesitated but, after some reflection and consulting with his childhood friend and rival, decided to accept Rimuru’s offer. As a symbol of the alliance, Rimuru granted names to Benimaru and his companions—Shuna, Souei, Shion, Hakurou, and Kurobe—causing them all to evolve from ogres into kijin.
Against the Orcs
After several days of training to adjust to their newfound powers, Benimaru, along with Hakurou and Souei, became strong enough to help Rimuru defeat the Orc army.
Attack of the Demon Lord Arc
Following the defeat of the Orc army, Benimaru and his companions pledged their loyalty to Rimuru and helped establish the Jura-Tempest Federation. During this time, they encountered Demon Lord Milim Nava, who eventually became an ally, and Phobio, a subordinate of the Demon Lord Carrion.
Visions of Coleus Arc
Benimaru, along with Souei, accompanied Rimuru on a mission to the Kingdom of Coleus to confront the Archdaemon Gustav.
Human-Monster Interaction Arc
During the invasion of Tempest by the Kingdom of Falmuth, Benimaru survived the attack and discovered that Mjurran, a key figure involved in the invasion, was an enslaved servant of Clayman, the mastermind behind the attack.
A Demon Lord’s Awakening Arc
Benimaru worked alongside his fellow warriors to defeat Falmuth’s army and played a key role in helping Rimuru evolve into a Demon Lord. This transformation also increased Benimaru’s strength, making him an even more formidable fighter.
The Octagram Soars Arc
Benimaru participated in the discussions about the upcoming Walpurgis, the meeting of the Demon Lords, though he did not personally attend the event.
Scarlet Bond Arc
Benimaru accompanied Rimuru to the Kingdom of Raja, where they thwarted Lacua’s plans to use the queen as a vessel for Violet, a powerful entity.
Conflict Between Saints and Monsters Arc
Benimaru reminisced about the battle against Clayman and, along with Albis, visited the Tengu to discuss diplomatic relations. During this time, rumors arose about Benimaru having feelings for Albis, which he denied. He later took part in the battle against the Ten Great Saints and the Seven Luminaries, defending Tempest from their invasion.
Territory Seizure Arc
Rimuru sent Benimaru and Albis to negotiate with the Tengu. Upon their arrival, they discovered a barrier around the village. Only Benimaru and Albis were permitted entry, where they met Momiji, a female Tengu. While Benimaru sought permission to dig a tunnel through the sacred mountains, tensions rose after Momiji insulted Albis, leading to a fight. Their confrontation was interrupted by Kaede, Momiji’s mother, who revealed her past with the ogres and proposed an engagement between Benimaru and Momiji to strengthen their alliance. Both were hesitant, but Momiji would need to win Benimaru’s heart first. This led to a rivalry between Momiji and Albis, who began competing for Benimaru’s affection.
Opening of the Monster City Arc
During Tempest’s grand festival, Benimaru expressed pride in his sister Shuna when she confidently defended her cooking from criticism by Middray. He also participated in overseeing the martial arts tournament, though he was excluded from competing due to his overwhelming strength, which would have made him an easy victor.

Personality
Benimaru has a carefree and confident personality, often displaying the enthusiasm of an excited warrior. However, beneath this exterior, he is cautious and strategic, always calculating his next move. While he has no desire to serve anyone he deems unworthy, he does not belittle or look down on those who are weaker than him, maintaining a respectful and balanced approach to others.
Despite his strength and leadership potential, Benimaru was hesitant when faced with the responsibility of becoming the chief of the Ogre Tribe. He found greater satisfaction in serving under Rimuru, preferring his current position where he can fight freely as the military commander of the Jura-Tempest Federation. In this role, he is able to fully enjoy the thrill of battle without the heavy burden of leadership that would have prevented him from riding into combat.
Originally hot-headed and impulsive, Benimaru’s time as Rimuru’s general has tempered his personality, making him more rational and composed in his decision-making. He retains his love for combat, often challenging those stronger than himself to test his abilities and measure his standing in the world. This battle-hungry spirit defines his approach to warfare, but he has learned to balance it with his responsibilities as a commander.
Background
Benimaru was originally a nameless ogre, born into the ruling family of the Ogre Tribe as its sole prince, destined to one day assume the role of chief. From a young age, he received combat training from the esteemed Sword Oni, alongside many other ogres of his generation, honing his skills for future leadership.
However, tragedy struck when, without warning, his village was destroyed by an army of Orcs, leaving him and a small group of survivors, including his sister, with no choice but to flee. Seeking refuge in the forest, Benimaru and his companions encountered a masked majin, whom they immediately assumed to be involved in the destruction of their village. Driven by a thirst for revenge, they attacked the majin, but quickly found themselves outmatched. Despite the overwhelming power of their opponent, Benimaru resolved to make one final stand, even if it cost him his life. His sister, sensing they may have misjudged the situation, stopped him and urged him to listen to the majin’s explanation.
The majin, who introduced himself as Rimuru Tempest, pleaded his case, convincing Benimaru and the others that he was not responsible for the attack. Realizing their mistake, Benimaru apologized and the conflict was peacefully resolved.
Rimuru then extended an offer of refuge to Benimaru and his fellow survivors, which they accepted. As a gesture of goodwill, Rimuru named them, resulting in their evolution from ogres into kijin, a more powerful form. After the Orc army’s defeat, Benimaru and his comrades pledged their permanent loyalty to Rimuru, taking on key roles in the growing nation of monsters led by the slime.
