Ayase Miharu’s Appearance in Anime

Miharu Ayase grew up as Amakawa Haruto’s childhood friend and next-door neighbor, with their families maintaining a close relationship. From an early age, Miharu was considered cute, often attracting the attention of boys, though their interest usually manifested in teasing and bullying. Haruto would always step in to protect her, becoming the shield she could rely on. Over time, this protection fostered Miharu’s deep dependence on him, while Haruto’s care built the foundation of their bond.

When Haruto’s parents divorced, he was forced to leave town with his father. Devastated, Miharu begged him to stay, but Haruto promised her that he would one day return and take her hand in marriage. This promise became a guiding hope for both of them as they matured, each holding onto it while striving to better themselves for the day they might reunite.

After Haruto’s departure, Miharu remained close to Aki Sendo, Haruto’s stepsister, and through her became acquainted with Aki’s new siblings, Takahisa Sendo and Masato Sendo. Though Miharu was still shy and uneasy around boys, she made an effort to befriend Takahisa for Aki’s sake, slowly expanding her circle of trust.

Years later, during the high school entrance ceremony, Miharu and her companions’ lives changed drastically. On their way home, a sudden spatial distortion appeared around Takahisa and their senior, Satsuki Sumeragi, before also engulfing Miharu, Aki, and Masato. In an instant, the group was transported into an unfamiliar world, finding themselves stranded in a vast and empty grassland that marked the beginning of their struggle in another world.

Appearance

Miharu Ayase is portrayed as a cute and gentle-looking girl, characterized by her quiet demeanor and delicate features. Her soft facial expressions give her an approachable and kind presence, often reflecting her calm and caring personality. She has long, straight black hair that flows down to her waist, framing her face and adding to her graceful appearance. Her eyes are gentle and warm, contributing to the impression of a composed and considerate young woman. Miharu’s simple yet elegant look often emphasizes her reserved nature, while also highlighting the quiet strength that lies beneath her gentle exterior.

Personality

Miharu Ayase is a gentle and kindhearted girl, often described as being almost too kind for her own good. Her warmth and caring nature made her popular during middle school, where she ranked first on both the list of girls the boys wanted to marry and the list of ideal housewife-type girlfriends. She is honest, responsible, and deeply loyal, holding on to promises from her childhood and continuing to honor them even years later.

Despite her popularity, Miharu is naturally shy and reserved, particularly when interacting with boys. This shyness, combined with her forgiving disposition, often makes her vulnerable to being taken advantage of. However, her sincerity and quiet strength allow her to form meaningful connections, showing that her gentleness is not weakness but a reflection of her steadfast heart.

Abilities

As a summoned individual from another world, Miharu possesses an unusually vast amount of magic essence, far greater than most natives of the new world. However, due to her inexperience, she has yet to fully master its use, leaving much of her potential untapped.

For her own safety, she undergoes basic martial arts training under Haruto’s guidance, learning to wield a staff or rod purely for self-defense. Her techniques are not designed for defeating opponents but rather for protecting herself in dangerous situations.

In the light novel, Miharu also begins learning spirit arts. Thanks to her brief bond with Aishia, her affinity for spirit arts is significantly enhanced, surpassing even the highest-level practitioners among the Seirei no Tami. This connection grants her the potential to become an exceptionally skilled spirit user, though her gentle nature keeps her focus on supportive rather than combative roles.

Relationships

Rio / Amakawa Haruto
Miharu is Haruto’s first love and childhood friend. Before parting ways at the age of nine, the two promised to marry when they grew older. That promise became a driving force in their lives, motivating both to improve themselves for each other’s sake. By chance, they enrolled in the same high school years later, though Haruto hesitated to approach her after misinterpreting her closeness with Takahisa Sendo as a romantic relationship. Before he could resolve his regrets and speak to her directly, Miharu vanished after being caught in a summoning spell to another world. Haruto carried the weight of this regret until his untimely death in a traffic accident, whereupon his soul reincarnated as Rio.

Satsuki Sumeragi
Satsuki was Miharu’s senior and fellow student council member during middle school. Though their relationship began somewhat distant, they gradually grew closer, and Miharu welcomed her as part of their group of childhood friends alongside Takahisa. After their transportation to another world, Miharu and Satsuki’s bond deepened further, solidifying a sense of mutual trust and support.

Takahisa Sendo
Takahisa developed feelings for Miharu from the moment they met, though his affection remained unspoken. While Miharu struggled with interacting with boys, she made an effort to adjust for Takahisa’s sake, as he was part of Aki Sendo’s new family. To outsiders, their frequent interactions gave the impression that Miharu and Takahisa were close, which caused Haruto to misunderstand their relationship. Takahisa, being the only boy Miharu seemed comfortable around, felt a quiet sense of superiority but refrained from confessing his love. He feared that doing so would upset the balance of their group and potentially harm Miharu’s bond with Aki, which he valued deeply.

Etymology

The surname Ayase (綾瀬) combines aya (綾), meaning “design” or “pattern,” with se (瀬), meaning “swift current” or “rapids,” evoking imagery of elegance flowing with natural force. Her given name Miharu (美春) is formed from mi (美), meaning “beautiful,” and haru (春), meaning “spring,” together signifying “beautiful spring.” The name reflects both grace and renewal, qualities that align with her gentle personality and the hopeful bond she shares with Haruto.

Trivia

    • In the web novel, the combined slave price of Miharu and Aki, if sold as harlots, was estimated at approximately 50 gold coins. Aki’s value was considered lower due to her young age. For comparison, the annual income of a lower-class noble was about 40 gold coins, highlighting the high market value placed on them.
