Arachne Gorgon

Arachne Gorgon (アラクネ・ゴーゴン, Arakune Gōgon) was a powerful witch, the former head of the Arachnophobia organization, and the eldest of the infamous Gorgon Sisters. Renowned for her cunning intellect and mastery of manipulation, Arachne played a pivotal role in the creation of the magic weapons, which she considered her ultimate legacy. Her ambition was to dominate the world and challenge the dominance of Death Weapon Meister Academy (DWMA), making her one of the most formidable antagonists in the series.

Appearance in manga

Arachne Gorgon possesses an otherworldly and haunting beauty, characterized by her porcelain-like pale complexion that gives her an almost doll-like appearance. Her figure is curvaceous, with pronounced features including large breasts, a slender waist, and wide hips, which add to her imposing and regal demeanor.

Her long, dark hair is styled upward, with two long strands that frame her face, accentuating her sharp and striking features. Her most distinctive facial trait is her eyes, with irises and pupils entirely grey, marked by intricate black spider web patterns, reflecting her arachnid theme and sinister persona.

Arachne’s signature attire is a long, black sleeveless dress that completely conceals her feet. The dress is uniquely designed with eight trailing extensions at the hem, resembling the legs of a spider. Around her neck, she wears a narrow black band featuring a spider emblem at its center, flanked by eight protrusions on the back, mirroring a spider’s legs. The gap between the band and the dress is bridged by delicate spider web netting, enhancing her arachnid aesthetic.

Her arms are adorned with detached, oversized sleeves that extend just beyond her elbows, each decorated with four protrusions at the ends, continuing the spider-like design. To complete her look, she wears dangling spider-shaped earrings, adding an extra touch of elegance and menace to her appearance.

Arachne’s overall design not only reflects her identity as a witch but also embodies her connection to spiders, presenting her as both alluring and deeply unsettling.

Personality

Arachne Gorgon exudes an air of refinement and aristocracy, often maintaining a calm and calculated demeanor that belies her manipulative nature. She is highly skilled at espionage and psychological manipulation, frequently using her charisma to sway others and portray herself as a maternal figure. Arachne’s facade of benevolence is evident in her interactions; for instance, she once claimed she could offer love and care to Crona and subtly encouraged Giriko to behave more respectfully after he lashed out, by framing it as her dislike for unruly children. She also presents herself as a forgiving and pragmatic leader, notably pardoning Mosquito after his failure to protect the morality manipulation machine, finding utility in his efforts to analyze Mifune’s combat abilities.

However, beneath her aristocratic exterior lies a vengeful and ruthless personality. Arachne harbors a deep grudge against her sister Medusa for betraying her and is similarly motivated by a long-standing vendetta against Death. Much of her drive to envelop the world in madness stems from her desire for revenge, showcasing her obsessive and vindictive tendencies. Arachne’s manipulative nature extends to her willingness to sacrifice even her most loyal subordinates, including top executives like Giriko, if it benefits her goals or strengthens her position.

Fitting her aristocratic demeanor, Arachne enjoys luxurious indulgences, such as sipping on high-end alcoholic beverages like champagne. Despite her manipulative tendencies, she remains largely unbothered by internal conflicts within her organization, even allowing in-fighting among her executives, as it does not threaten her overall objectives. This blend of aristocratic grace, cunning manipulation, and vengeful resolve makes Arachne a formidable and complex figure.

Relationships

Medusa Gorgon: Arachne’s relationship with her younger sister Medusa is complex. While the two share a mutual respect for each other’s intelligence and power, they are often at odds due to their differing methods and ambitions. Arachne views Medusa as reckless, while Medusa considers Arachne too controlling.

Eruka Frog: Arachne often uses Eruka as a pawn in her schemes, exploiting her cowardice and lack of power. Eruka reluctantly follows Arachne’s orders out of fear, though she secretly despises her manipulative ways.

Mosquito: As one of her most loyal subordinates, Mosquito serves Arachne with unwavering devotion. He admires her intellect and is willing to carry out her orders without question, often acting as her enforcer within Arachnophobia.

Death the Kid and DWMA: Arachne sees the DWMA and Death as her primary enemies, considering their existence a threat to her ambitions. She harbors a particular hatred for Death the Kid, whom she views as an obstacle to her plans.

Abilities

Arachne’s powers are rooted in her arachnid theme, allowing her to dominate battles with her mastery of webs and psychological manipulation.

  • Web Manipulation:
Arachne can produce and manipulate webs with incredible precision, using them for offense, defense, and control. Her webs can immobilize her enemies, create barriers, and even serve as a medium for her to extend her influence.

  • Mind Control
Arachne’s webs have the ability to infiltrate the minds of others, allowing her to manipulate and control them to her advantage. This makes her a formidable opponent in both physical and psychological warfare.

  • Immortality
Like many witches, Arachne possesses an extended lifespan and incredible resilience. She has demonstrated the ability to survive fatal injuries by transferring her soul to other mediums.

  • Spider Form
In combat, Arachne can transform into a monstrous spider-like form, enhancing her physical abilities and adding to her terrifying presence.

  • Magic Weapon Expertise
As the creator of the magic weapons, Arachne has an intimate understanding of their mechanics, giving her an edge in battle and allowing her to control them effectively.
