Etymology

The given name Aoi (葵) is commonly associated with the meaning “hollyhock” or “althea,” a flower often symbolizing dignity and endurance in Japanese culture.

Her surname, Ichijō (一条), is composed of the kanji ichi (一), meaning “one,” and jō (条), meaning “article,” “clause,” or “stripe.” Together, the name may suggest individuality or a singular path, reflecting her strong-willed and principled nature.

Trivia

    • Among the Seven Prodigies, Aoi Ichijō receives the least character development in the series. This is primarily due to her role as Akatsuki’s bodyguard, which requires her to maintain a constant presence at his side in order to uphold the illusion of “God and the Seven Luminaries.”
