Ålgård

Ålgård (historically known as Aalgaard) serves as the administrative center of Gjesdal municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. Positioned along the European route E39 highway, it sits approximately 10 kilometers (6.2 mi) southeast of the city of Sandnes in the Jæren district of the county. The village encompasses several neighborhoods including Ålgård, Bærland, Fiskebekk, Opstad, and Solås. To the south of the village lies the expansive lake Edlandsvatnet, which feeds into the northwest-flowing river Figgjoelva leading to Sandnes.[3]

Ålgård is mostly known for the Kongeparken amusement park, an old wool mill, and a local football team (Ålgård F.K.) playing in the Norwegian Second Division. The Old Ålgård Church (built in 1917) and the new Ålgård Church (built in 2015) are both located in the village. There is significant industries in Ålgård, primarily the wood, textile, and clothing industries.[3]

The village, spanning 4.04 square kilometers (1,000 acres), was home to 8,938 residents as of 2015, resulting in a population density of 2,212 inhabitants per square kilometer (5,730/sq mi). Situated adjacent to Ålgård in the neighboring Sandnes municipality, the village of Figgjo forms part of one large urban area, Ålgård/Figgjo, crossing municipal boundaries. Collectively, Ålgård/Figgjo boasts a population of 10,956 residents.[1]
