Positioned on the western side of the island of Karmøy in the traditional district of Haugaland, Åkrehamn is located approximately 5 kilometers (3.1 mi) west of the town of Kopervik, about 12 kilometers (7.5 mi) north of the town of Skudeneshavn, and roughly 25 kilometers (16 mi) southwest of the town of Haugesund. The village of Veavågen lies immediately to the northeast of Åkrehamn.[3]

The town of Åkrehamn covers an area of 4.35 square kilometers (1,070 acres) and had a population of 7,736 as of 2014. With this population density, Åkrehamn boasts approximately 1,778 inhabitants per square kilometer (4,600/sq mi). It stands as the second-largest urban area by population in Karmøy, following the nearby town of Kopervik.[1]

The village of Åkrehamn was granted town status in 2002, marking a significant milestone in its development. Since achieving this status, Åkrehamn has experienced notable growth and transformation, emerging as the second-largest town in the municipality of Karmøy. The robust economy of Norway has attracted capital and investments to Åkrehamn, facilitating its expansion and development. In recent years, the town has witnessed the construction of new apartments and houses, alongside the introduction of new fields of industry. This growth reflects Åkrehamn’s evolving status as a vibrant and thriving urban center within the region.[4]

The northern part of Åkrehamn now encompasses the old fishing village of Sævelandsvik, which is centered around the well-protected harbor area known as Mannes. The economy of this area primarily revolves around fishing, along with some other small industries that contribute to the local economy.[5][6]
