Before his transformation, Akane was bullied due to his delicate and androgynous appearance, making him insecure and self-conscious. Feeling powerless, he chose to leave school and train to become stronger, spending months developing his physique and fighting skills.

When he returned to school, he was completely unrecognizable, having grown into a massive, muscular figure with a fearsome reputation. Due to his new appearance and intimidating aura, other students no longer dared to bully him, and he quickly gained a reputation as one of the toughest students in school.

However, despite his drastic change in appearance, Akane remains incredibly shy and easily flustered, especially when it comes to his admiration for Handa. He wrongly assumes that Handa recognized his potential and inspired his transformation, leading him to devote himself to following Handa’s “teachings” even though Handa is completely unaware of this.

Akane is tall, heavily built, and physically imposing, with broad shoulders, muscular arms, and a generally thuggish look. His deep-set eyes and perpetually serious expression make him seem like a delinquent, often causing misunderstandings with other students.

Despite his frightening appearance, he is easily embarrassed and sometimes acts timid, especially when talking about Handa. His contrast between appearance and personality is a major source of comedy in Handa-kun.

Although Akane appears rough and menacing, he is actually quite awkward, reserved, and highly sensitive. His self-esteem issues from being bullied have not completely faded, and he still struggles with social interactions, especially when it comes to expressing his admiration for Handa.

He is extremely loyal and devoted, especially to those he respects. After misinterpreting one of Handa’s actions as a sign of encouragement, he believes that Handa saw his potential when no one else did, leading him to idolize Handa as a role model and mentor.

Despite his serious nature, Akane gets flustered easily and is prone to overthinking situations, making him accidentally comedic. His attempts to “act cool” often backfire, resulting in unexpectedly wholesome or hilarious moments.

• Joining the Handa Force
  After his return to school, Akane quickly becomes a respected figure due to his strength and toughness. However, after witnessing one of Handa’s “wise” (but actually accidental) actions, he becomes convinced that Handa is an enlightened and powerful individual, leading him to swear loyalty to him. He is later recruited into the “Handa Force,” a group of students who idolize Handa and dedicate themselves to supporting him (despite Handa having no idea they exist). His brute strength and intimidating presence make him one of the strongest members of the group, though his timid personality contrasts sharply with his appearance.

• Misunderstanding Handa’s Behavior
  Like the rest of the Handa Force, Akane greatly misunderstands Handa’s true nature. While Handa is actually socially awkward and introverted, Akane sees him as a wise, confident leader who inspires others through his presence alone. This leads to countless comedic moments, where Akane reacts to Handa’s accidental gestures as if they are deliberate lessons in strength and wisdom.

• Becoming a Protector
  Due to his physical strength and reputation, Akane often acts as a bodyguard for the Handa Force, ensuring that no harm comes to Handa (even though Handa is completely unaware of this). His protectiveness over Handa leads to various conflicts with students who misunderstand Handa’s aloof nature, often escalating situations into unnecessary fights or dramatic confrontations.
