As a central character in the story, she plays a pivotal role in the unfolding events, navigating the challenges of school life, relationships, and personal growth. Chibi Appearance

Akane Sakuramori is the classmate and rival of Saito Houjou, with whom she frequently engages in heated disagreements. While she possesses a striking beauty reminiscent of a model when silent, her interactions with Saito often disrupt this composed image, as their competitive nature leads to constant clashes.

Despite her confrontational dynamic with Saito, Akane is a hardworking and determined individual with a strong competitive spirit. She takes her efforts seriously, valuing both diligence and family, which serve as core influences in her life. Beneath her rivalry, she harbors a personal dream that she is unwaveringly committed to achieving even if it ultimately means marrying Saito in the process.

Appearance

Akane Sakuramori is described as a beautiful young girl with a voluptuous and curvy figure, possessing an allure that could rival that of a professional model. She has short brown hair, though in her childhood, she used to have longer hair before eventually cutting it. Standing at an average height, her striking features and confident presence make her a noticeable figure among her peers.

Personality

Akane Sakuramori embodies the classic tsundere archetype, characterized by her short temper, particularly in situations involving Saito. She frequently chastises him, often going on exaggerated tangents over seemingly minor infractions, reflecting both her fiery nature and deep-seated rivalry with him. As a serious and competitive individual, she finds it particularly frustrating to consistently lose to Saito in academic tests, especially given his lazy and indifferent attitude.

Despite her outward hostility, Akane is not inherently ill-spirited. She is generally friendly with others but struggles with expressing her true feelings, particularly when it comes to Saito. Her easily embarrassed nature often leads to unintended outbursts, followed by moments of regret once she has calmed down.

As circumstances force her and Saito to live together, Akane gradually undergoes a shift in perspective. This new dynamic compels her to reflect on herself, leading her to lower her guard and become more willing to cooperate, resulting in less hostility between them.

Above all else, Akane remains laser-focused on achieving an undisclosed dream, one that she is so determined to fulfill that she is even willing to marry Saito if it means accomplishing her goal.

Relationships

Saito Houjou
Saito is Akane’s archenemy, and their interactions are often filled with constant bickering over trivial matters at school. Akane has always had a grudge against Saito, while he remains unyielding, refusing to back down in their arguments. Even their classmates frequently berate Akane for giving him a hard time without reason. However, after they were forced into marriage, their dynamic remained just as tumultuous, with Akane scolding Saito over his habits, such as playing horror games instead of doing chores. She even reprimanded him for saving her from drowning in the bath after she fell asleep in it.

Despite her outward hostility, Akane does not truly hate Saito. In fact, she secretly admires his genius, but due to her own nervousness and inability to express her feelings, she often ends up being antagonistic toward him instead.

The two first met as children at their grandparents’ wedding party, where they spent time together, and Akane gave Saito her handkerchief. However, Saito remained unaware that Akane was the girl from the party until Volume 9. According to Maho, Akane was very happy after meeting Saito at the event. However, they did not meet again until high school, where Saito failed to recognize her. Hurt by his reaction, Akane developed a rivalry with him that lasted two years.

After they were forced to live together, Akane gradually fell in love with Saito. As she learned more about him, her hostility began to wane, though she still struggles to admit her feelings openly due to embarrassment.

Maho Sakuramori
Maho is Akane’s younger sister, who suffers from a chronic illness. Akane adores Maho and does everything in her power to make her happy, ensuring that she never feels lonely while hospitalized. Maho’s condition serves as Akane’s primary motivation for pursuing her dream of becoming a doctor.

Himari Ishikura
Himari is Akane’s best friend, though she dislikes hearing Akane lecture her whenever she starts another fight with Saito. Having been friends since elementary school, they share a deep bond and have never had any major disputes until Akane’s marriage to Saito.

After learning that Akane and Saito were married, Himari became increasingly jealous, unable to accept that Akane was living with him. She then began plotting ways to separate them, hoping to make Saito fall in love with her instead. Initially, they tried to maintain their friendship, even jokingly suggesting that they could share Saito. However, as time passed, Himari’s jealousy intensified, eventually leading to a fallout as their friendship turned into a love rivalry.

By Volume 9, after finally giving up on pursuing Saito, Himari reconciles with Akane, acknowledging that Saito belongs to her. However, she ominously warns that if anything bad were to happen to him, she would not forgive Akane and would attempt to break their marriage. Akane finds Himari’s behavior unsettling, developing a newfound fear of her.

Shisei Houjou & Saito’s Parents
Akane harbors deep resentment toward Saito’s parents, particularly his father, Shisei Houjou. In Volume 7, after witnessing how poorly Saito’s parents treated him, Akane openly defended him, declaring that they were unfit to be parents and did not deserve to have a son like him.

Legacy

Akane Sakuramori’s character arc and struggles with school, identity, and relationships make her a relatable and emotionally engaging protagonist in Class no Daikirai. Her evolution from a frustrated, rebellious student to someone who finds meaning in her experiences leaves a lasting impact on both the story and the audience. Whether seen as a troublemaker, a misunderstood student, or an individual searching for purpose, Akane’s journey serves as a compelling exploration of youth, self-discovery, and personal growth.

Trivia

    • Despite being Saito’s wife, Akane was the last girl to kiss him.
      • The first three girls who kissed Saito before her were Shisei, Himari, and Maho.
