Adlet Mayer (アドレット・マイア, Adoretto Maia), known as Adlet Myer in the anime, is the main protagonist of Rokka no Yuusha (Braves of the Six Flowers). He is one of the Braves from the third generation, a group of legendary heroes chosen to fight against the Demon God, who threatens the world. Adlet claims to be the “self-proclaimed strongest man in the world,” and while he may be overly confident at times, his strength, intelligence, and cunning are undeniable. His battle style is based on using tools and trickery to outmaneuver and catch his opponents off guard.
Adlet’s journey as a Brave is not just about saving the world it’s deeply personal. His desire for revenge against the Demon God stems from his tragic past. When he was a child, his village was destroyed by Teguneu, who captured the villagers, leaving only Adlet behind. Unable to become a Saint (a role reserved only for women), Adlet’s motivation to join the ranks of the Braves stems from his thirst for vengeance, as well as his drive to prove his worth. To achieve this, he sought training from Atro, a hermit adept in various fighting styles and sciences, and honed his skills to become the hero he believes he was meant to be.
Background

Appearance in Anime
Adlet Mayer’s backstory is defined by tragedy and an insatiable desire for vengeance. He grew up in a peaceful village, but everything changed when Teguneu, a force tied to the Demon God, destroyed it. Adlet was the only one left, having narrowly escaped capture. This traumatic event ignited his desire for revenge against the Demon God and the forces that destroyed his home. However, Adlet was faced with a limitation that many male warriors would understand only women could become Saints, a crucial figure in the fight against evil. Determined not to let this stop him, Adlet pursued a different route, training under Atro, a hermit skilled in various fighting styles, including advanced scientific methods to enhance his combat abilities.
Though his desire for revenge is a driving force, Adlet’s journey soon becomes more complicated as he joins the group of Braves. He learns that the road to becoming a true hero is not only about power but also about teamwork, trust, and the battles within. Adlet’s character development involves both his desire for vengeance and his need to grow as a person, making the personal stakes of his journey significant.
Appearance
Adlet Mayer has a rugged, battle-hardened appearance that reflects his status as a warrior. He has medium-length brown hair, often tousled from his constant battles, and sharp, determined eyes that convey his confidence and inner turmoil. His physique is lean yet muscular, highlighting his years of training and physical prowess. Adlet’s usual attire includes a well-fitted warrior’s cloak and armor, designed for mobility and combat. He also carries a variety of tools and gadgets, which are integral to his trick-based fighting style.
Though his appearance is somewhat rough, Adlet carries an air of charisma and confidence, often displaying an enthusiastic, self-assured demeanor. His unique combination of strength, agility, and intelligence makes him a standout figure, both as a fighter and as a leader of sorts.
Personality
Adlet Mayer is a complex character, balancing a charismatic, confident exterior with a deep, personal drive for revenge. He is often seen boasting about being the “strongest man in the world,” but his self-confidence hides a profound determination to overcome his past and prove his worth. Adlet’s charm lies in his relentless optimism and his belief in his own abilities, despite the odds stacked against him.
While he is undeniably resourceful and courageous, Adlet’s self-proclaimed strength sometimes comes across as arrogance, causing others to question his true motives and capabilities. However, his intelligence and tactical mindset make him an asset in battle, as he often uses tools, traps, and trickery to gain the upper hand over his enemies. Deep down, Adlet’s motivations are fueled by a sense of justice and the need to protect others, though his journey is also marked by his internal struggle with the desire for revenge and his place among the Braves.
His ability to think outside the box and his determination to achieve his goal of vengeance often lead to moments of doubt and introspection. As his journey unfolds, Adlet learns the importance of working with others, understanding that being a hero is not just about strength but about loyalty, friendship, and the sacrifices necessary for the greater good.
Role in the Story
The Mist Barrier and the Mystery of the Seventh: Adlet is summoned as one of the Braves of the Six Flowers, chosen to defeat the Demon God. However, upon arrival at the sealed temple, he and his companions discover that seven heroes have gathered instead of six, meaning one is an imposter. When the mist barrier is mysteriously activated and no one can leave, suspicion turns inward and Adlet is the first to be accused.
Outcast and Detective: Using his intelligence and combat expertise, Adlet must prove his innocence while under pressure from the other Braves, some of whom are powerful Saints. Throughout this arc, Adlet plays the role of a detective, challenging assumptions, questioning motives, and carefully laying out logical deductions to reveal the truth behind the false Brave.
Combat by Trickery: Unlike his allies who wield overwhelming powers, Adlet relies on creative thinking, traps, and tactical maneuvers to win battles. This is showcased in multiple fights where he turns the tide using only preparation, misdirection, and sheer tenacity, reinforcing that his claim to strength lies not in raw power, but in his ability to outsmart opponents.
Relationships
Nashetania Loei Piena Augustra: The Saint of Blades and one of the Braves. Adlet initially develops a bond with her and trusts her deeply, only for that relationship to be complicated by betrayal and suspicion later in the story.
Fremy Speeddraw: The Saint of Gunpowder and fellow Brave. Fremy initially distrusts Adlet but grows to respect and care for him, forming one of the central emotional threads of the story. Adlet, in turn, sees her as a kindred spirit who also carries pain from the past.
Atro: Adlet’s mysterious mentor. Though not seen often in the present timeline, Atro is responsible for teaching Adlet everything he knows. His influence is felt in Adlet’s methods and philosophies.
