On June 23, 2016 heavy rainfall dumped 9-10 inches of rain over six to eight hours in West Virginia.

The rainfall was so catastrophic it prompted the National Weather Service to call it a “one-in-a-thousand-year event.”

At least 20 people have been confirmed dead in the worst flooding the state has seen in a century.
