Miyo Kudou

Miyo Kudou (久堂美世, Kudō Miyo), née Saimori (斎森), is the female protagonist of the My Happy Marriage series. She is the wife of Kiyoka Kudou, the only daughter of Shinichi Saimori and Sumi Usuba, and the eldest daughter of the Saimori family.

I will live my life for myself, not for anyone else.
Miyo Kudou

Appearance

At the beginning of the story, Miyo is described as very beautiful, though her appearance is worn down from years of mistreatment. She has a pale complexion, dull and damaged hair, dark circles under her eyes, and calluses on her hands from hard labor as a servant in the Saimori residence. As the series progresses, Miyo gradually becomes healthier, happier, and more elegant, largely thanks to the care and support of Kiyoka, Hazuki, and Yurie.

Miyo strongly resembles her mother, Sumi, inheriting her calm and graceful appearance. She is a slender young woman with long black hair, depicted as dark brown and mid-length in the live-action movie, featuring purple undertones and a straight fringe. She has soft purple-pink eyes and a small mole under her left eye. When performing servant duties, she ties her hair into a low ponytail, though she occasionally wears it loose.

Personality

Miyo is a kind-hearted, gentle, timid, and docile young woman. With Kiyoka’s love and care, she gradually gains confidence and self-esteem.

History

Miyo was born from the loveless, arranged marriage of Shinichi Saimori and Sumi Usuba, designed in part to produce a maiden with the Dream-Sight ability. Sumi married into the Saimori family to save her own family from financial ruin. Miyo’s early childhood was happy; she remembers her father being kind and her mother doting on her. However, her father’s kindness was not out of love, and Sumi secretly sealed Miyo’s Dream-Sight ability to protect her. When Shinichi discovered Miyo could not demonstrate the Spirit-Sight ability, he saw her as a disgrace and rejected her.

At age two, Miyo’s mother passed away. Shinichi soon remarried Kanoko, who hated Sumi and Miyo. Kanoko began mentally and physically abusing Miyo, calling her “a thief’s daughter,” while Shinichi ignored her suffering. Miyo’s half-sister, Kaya, was born shortly after and showed gifted abilities, further cementing Miyo’s status as unwanted.

Abilities

Dream-Sight:Miyo’s special Usuba Gift allows her to enter the dreams of any sleeping person, manipulate their vision, and even see or alter the past and future. It is considered the most powerful Usuba Gift, but Sumi sealed it to prevent exploitation. Miyo grew up believing she was Giftless and was mistreated by the Saimori family. After leaving the Saimori residence, the seal gradually weakened, and her ability awakened.

Techniques:

  • Familiar Technique:With guidance from Hazuki and Arata, Miyo learns to use her Gift. While she cannot conjure familiars alone, a modified amulet from Kiyoka allows her to activate paper familiars independently.

  • Sealing:At the Usuba estate, Miyo touches the cherry blossom tree to unseal her mother’s powers, fully awakening her Gift and enabling her to challenge the Emperor’s tyranny.
