Ah-Duo

Appearance
Ah-Duo has long purple hair and clear purple eyes. Though she is a woman and the oldest among the high consorts, her appearance resembles that of a handsome young man. She shares a striking resemblance with her biological son, Jinshi, possessing the same ethereal and androgynous beauty that often captivates those around her.
Unlike most consorts, Ah-Duo favors simplicity over extravagance. She avoids wearing elaborate or flashy dresses and instead prefers practical hunting uniforms, reflecting her straightforward and unpretentious nature.
Personality
Ah-Duo possesses a distinctly tomboyish personality, marked by her strong sense of independence and adventurous spirit. She has always longed to escape the confines of the Imperial Palace and travel the world freely as a merchant. Her childhood dream was to become a court official, though such a position was forbidden to Linese women. Despite her unconventional ambitions, Ah-Duo is a confident and compassionate woman with deeply nurturing, maternal instincts, especially toward younger women. She only accepted the role of consort because the Emperor wished to keep her close to him.
History
Ah-Duo is the cherished daughter of Suiren, the former lady-in-waiting of Dowager Empress Anshi and the Emperor’s wet nurse. Growing up as milk siblings, Ah-Duo and the Emperor shared a close bond. The Emperor fell deeply in love with her and promised that she would be his only wife, to which Ah-Duo teasingly replied that he should then make her the next Empress Dowager. For more than a decade, she remained his sole consort, and together they had a son, Jinshi.
Jinshi’s birth was fraught with complications, coinciding with the delivery of the Imperial Brother. Considered a lower priority than Dowager Empress Anshi, Ah-Duo was denied proper medical care, and both her and her baby’s lives were in grave danger. The court physician, Luomen, saved them by performing an emergency procedure that left Ah-Duo infertile. To protect her child, she orchestrated a secret switch between Jinshi and the Imperial Brother, ensuring her son’s safety at the cost of her own maternal claim. The plan succeeded, though tragedy struck when the real Imperial Brother was mistakenly killed, leading to Luomen’s exile.
In the years that followed, Ah-Duo devoted herself to protecting others. She became a guardian to Lishu, a young girl exploited by her father, Uryuu, and forced into the Inner Court. Together with the Emperor, Ah-Duo came to love Lishu as if she were her own daughter. Upon the Emperor’s ascension, Ah-Duo and Lishu were formally named Pure and Virtuous Consorts, though their positions were largely symbolic. During this time, Ah-Duo also grew close to Jinshi, who disguised himself as an eunuch to avoid the burdens of his royal status.
Five years into the Emperor’s reign, Ah-Duo was unjustly removed from her position by Prime Minister Shishou, who replaced her with his daughter, Loulan. Despite her demotion, Ah-Duo was granted the Southern Imperial Villa, where she became caretaker and protector to those who needed refuge, among them Suirei, the orphaned children of the Shi Clan, and the Shrine Maiden of Shaoh. At Jinshi’s personal request, she continued to serve quietly, extending her kindness and protection to all who sought her shelter.
