Miyako Saitou

Appearance
Miyako is a fair-skinned woman with strawberry-blonde hair that reaches her upper back, styled with bangs that fall to the left side of her face, and she has striking rouge-colored eyes. She was first described as a young wife, suggesting she is in her mid to late thirties by the time Aqua and Ruby Hoshino enter high school.
Throughout the series, Miyako’s wardrobe reflects her personal growth. In her early appearances, she wears extravagant clothing that highlights her vanity and materialistic attitude. After Ai Hoshino’s death, however, she adopts a more modest and casual style, symbolizing her maturity and transformation into a caring, hardworking, and motherly figure.
Personality
At first, Miyako comes across as a shallow and self-centered woman who married Ichigo Saitou mainly to mingle with attractive actors. She was impulsive, short tempered, and resentful of having to care for Ai Hoshino’s twins, even attempting to sell Ai’s scandal before being stopped by the children. She could also be easily swayed, as Aqua and Ruby often managed to manipulate her into doing what they wanted.
Over time, however, Miyako’s true nature surfaced as she became a caring, responsible, and empathetic guardian. Her dedication to protecting Ai’s secret and raising the twins showed her growth and compassion. After Ai’s death, she formally adopted Aqua and Ruby, becoming a loving and nurturing mother, particularly gentle with Ruby. Professionally, Miyako proved herself capable by keeping Ichigo Production afloat through tough times, steering it in a new direction despite her lack of industry experience. Her perceptiveness also stands out, as she was the first to realize that Mem Cho was older than she claimed, a detail that even Aqua failed to notice.
Etymology
Miyako’s surname Saitou means “religious purification/purification, Buddhist food, room, worship, avoid, alike” (斎) (sai) and “wisteria” (藤) (tou).
History
Miyako was first portrayed as a self-serving woman who married Ichigo Saitou to take advantage of his industry connections. Tasked with caring for Aqua and Ruby Hoshino, she openly expressed her resentment toward her husband, calling him a jerk, and described Ai Hoshino’s situation as sordid. Upon realizing that the family was hiding Ai’s pregnancy scandal, she planned to sell the information to a gossip magazine for money. Flustered and anxious, she took photos of Ai’s maternity record book, nervously daydreaming about using the money for luxuries like host clubs and raising her favorite host to the top rank for a month.
However, her plans quickly fell apart after she was confronted by the talking baby twins. Shocked beyond belief, Miyako initially thought she was being pranked, but Ruby cleverly manipulated her by claiming to be the reincarnation of the goddess Amaterasu. With Aqua joining in, the twins warned her that if she betrayed them, she would face divine punishment, even death. Terrified, Miyako agreed to keep Ai’s secret and to devote herself to caring for the children. Ruby added that she should “dote on the children and do all they ask,” sweetening the deal by suggesting her next husband could be a handsome actor. From that moment on, Miyako became eager and compliant, genuinely embracing her caretaker role. Soon after, she began to treat the twins like her own children, engaging with them openly and even explaining the harsh realities of the entertainment industry when they questioned why Ai wasn’t getting more work.
