Akira is a short teenage girl with turquoise hair that fades to lilac at the ends, which appears blue in the anime. She keeps it in a messy low ponytail, with bangs framing her cheeks on both sides of her face and a vertical strand falling onto the middle of her forehead, reaching her nose. Like her aunt, Akira has yellow eyes with white pupils, though her appearance reflects her younger age.

During her first appearance, Akira wore a black leather jacket with a white shirt underneath and dark green pants. She was also seen wearing a green leather jacket with a yellow shirt underneath and a pair of pink baggy pants.

Akira is a kind-hearted girl who tends to be shy and easily frightened, especially when she is alone or in unfamiliar places like the JCC during her first week. She naturally takes care of those around her, which often puts her in unwanted situations. Despite this, she is determined to find her aunt Rion Akao. This determination was shown when she accepted the challenge from her teacher Etsuko Satoda, who allowed Akira, Shin, and Seba to attack her for twenty-four hours to earn a hint for the database.

She deeply cares for her friends and bases many of her choices, and even her path as an assassin, on her aunt Rion, whom she has admired since childhood. Akira sees Rion as her role model and strives to follow in her footsteps, often refusing help from others to act as she believes Rion would. This was shown during her first encounter with Sakamoto on the plane when she declined the bullets he offered, saying that Rion would not have accepted them.

Akira also has a bloodthirsty side that appears when those she cares about are hurt. She shows no hesitation in injuring or killing her enemies, a trait that seems to run in her family. After learning from Kanaguri that Rion had died, this side of her surfaced more strongly. However, when she regains control, Akira becomes uneasy about killing, as seen during the JCC Transfer Exams Arc when she panicked while trying to save Sakamoto after they were captured by other applicants.
