Appearance
Renako is a petite young woman standing at 158 cm, with vibrant pink hair styled in a short bob and adorned with signature black hairpins on both sides. Her expressive purple eyes reflect her emotional highs and lows, from bubbly enthusiasm to anxious self-doubt. At school, she dresses in the standard Ashigaya High uniform, often with a slightly disheveled charm that matches her earnest personality.
In her middle school years, Renako looked quite different. She had long, messy hair and a withdrawn demeanor, a reflection of the difficult period she went through. After she stopped attending school, her younger sister described her as appearing lifeless and unhealthily skinny. This stark contrast from her current self highlights the transformation she underwent before high school, reinventing herself as a more open, sociable person determined to move past her struggles and start anew.
Personality

Renako refuses to openly acknowledge her sexuality.
On the surface, Renako presents herself as a bright, popular, and sociable girl, a carefully crafted persona meant to help her fit in at school. Beneath this cheerful exterior, however, she is naturally timid and introverted, often feeling overwhelmed and anxious in large social settings. Her friendly and outgoing demeanor hides a more vulnerable side that struggles with self-doubt and the fear of standing out too much.
Her personality has been deeply shaped by the trauma she experienced in middle school, which left her with low self-esteem and a constant fear of rejection. This insecurity makes her self-deprecating and uncertain about the sincerity of her friendships. She avoids forming deep emotional attachments, preferring relationships that remain light and uncomplicated. Even after beginning relationships with Mai and Ajisai, she continues to struggle with accepting her own feelings and refuses to openly acknowledge her sexuality.
Despite her insecurities, Renako has a quiet determination and a strong desire to find happiness through her own effort. She idealizes the idea of a deep, romantic friendship, a “life partner” with whom she can be completely honest. When cornered, she shows surprising strength and decisiveness, determined to take control of her own life rather than depend on others. Her true personality, which emerges when she is relaxed or upset, is rougher and more candid. She is also an avid gamer, particularly skilled at first-person shooters, and can become unexpectedly talkative and passionate about the topic, a side of herself she usually hides from her popular friends.
Timeline

Renako, Ajasai and Mai laughing
Upon entering Ashigaya High School, Renako quickly befriended Oozuka Mai and earned a place within her popular social circle. However, the pressure of constantly maintaining her cheerful persona soon took a toll on her, leading her to seek solitude on the school rooftop. A misunderstanding caused Mai to believe Renako was in distress, resulting in a dramatic moment where both nearly fell from the building. This incident became a turning point for them, as they opened up about their hidden insecurities and began to form a genuine emotional bond beyond appearances.
Not long after, Mai confessed her romantic feelings to Renako. Unprepared for such a confession and wishing to preserve their friendship, Renako initially rejected her. In response, Mai proposed a “match” to determine whether they were better suited as lovers or friends, creating a unique and ambiguous dynamic between them. Later, Koto Satsuki, Mai’s rival, also confessed to Renako, and in a daze, Renako accepted, resulting in a brief two-week relationship. During this time, they learned intimate details about each other’s home lives and shared a kiss, which further complicated matters. The rivalry between Mai and Satsuki escalated until Renako stepped in, ultimately reconciling the two.
Another friend, Sena Ajisai, also developed romantic feelings for Renako. After a trip to a hot spring, and with Mai’s encouragement, Ajisai confessed her love to Renako in Mai’s presence, creating a complicated love triangle. The emotional strain caused Renako to withdraw, but with the help of her friend Kaho Koyanagi and their collaboration on cosplay activities, she found the strength to face her emotions honestly. Through this period of reflection, Renako was finally able to confront her insecurities and choose to date both Mai and Ajisai, marking a significant step in her growth and her journey toward self-acceptance.
