Blade

Blade is the former Sword Hero from an unnamed kingdom with strong ties to the Jioral Kingdom in Redo of Healer (回復術士のやり直し, Kaifuku Jutsushi no Yarinaoshi). In the original timeline, she was chosen as one of the members of the Hero Party assembled to defeat the Demon Queen Eve Reese. Despite her prestigious title and role, Blade’s character is notable for her complex relationship with her companions and her place in the shifting power dynamics of the story.

Blade’s Appearance in Anime

Blade is depicted as sadistic, obsessive, and openly hostile toward men, while exhibiting extreme, predatory attraction to women. Her behavior is characterized by cruelty and lack of restraint, often resorting to violence or coercion to satisfy her desires. When accompanying the Hero Party, she demonstrated envy and rage toward Keyaru, inflicting abuse on him when he was used by Flare, both out of jealousy and disgust.

According to Keyaru, Blade habitually sought out women in every town she visited, using deception and force to pursue them. She often disguised herself in male clothing to approach her targets, later revealing her identity and resorting to violence or drugs if seduction failed. Her actions revealed complete disregard for the autonomy or well-being of others, reflecting her selfishness and cruelty.

Despite her bravado, Blade’s final moments revealed her cowardice. When confronted by Keyaru, she begged for her life, exposing hypocrisy in contrast to her earlier cruelty. Her downfall was marked by humiliation and the loss of her composure, underscoring her role as one of the most ruthless yet morally bankrupt members of the Hero Party.

Appearance

Blade is portrayed as a young woman of average height and build, with short blonde hair and sharp, defined features. In the source material, her physical form can dramatically change through the use of her Ragnarok skill, which causes her muscles to expand and grants her a more imposing physique. In the anime adaptation, however, this transformation is depicted differently, represented by a glowing aura rather than a change in muscle mass. Outside of combat, Blade generally maintains a lean figure, with her design emphasizing her duality as both a hero and a predatory character.

Background

Prior to being chosen as one of the Four Heroes, Blade operated as an adventurer in a nation closely allied with the Jioral Kingdom. During this time, she frequently cross-dressed as a man to move unnoticed and used this disguise to approach young women in taverns and bars. Reports of her predatory behavior became common, and her reputation was marked by a trail of victims. One of these was a girl named Mirula, whose assault led her father to swear vengeance against Blade, illustrating the notoriety she had gained even before her official role as a Hero.

Despite this conduct, Blade was later selected as the Sword Hero and joined the Heroes Party tasked with defeating the Demon Queen Eve Reese. Her elevation to such a prestigious position reflected both her combat ability and the Jioral Kingdom’s willingness to overlook her personal misconduct in favor of her utility as a warrior. This contrast between her status as a celebrated Hero and her reputation as a feared predator became a defining aspect of her character.

Relationships

Keyaru
Blade viewed Keyaru with contempt, often subjecting him to physical and emotional abuse during his time as the Heroes Party’s healer. She harbored envy and disgust when Flare used him for her own purposes, lashing out violently against him. Despite her hostility, Blade’s downfall ultimately came at Keyaru’s hands when he enacted his revenge, exposing her cowardice and hypocrisy in the process.

Flare Arlgrande Jioral
Blade allied with Flare during her time in the Heroes Party, often indulging in cruel behavior alongside her. She admired Flare and, at times, treated her as an object of desire, which fueled some of her hostility toward Keyaru. Their relationship was marked by shared arrogance and abuse of power, but lacked genuine trust or loyalty.

Bullet
Blade shared common ground with Bullet as members of the Heroes Party, with both indulging in sadistic tendencies and abuses of authority. Though they worked toward the same cause, their alliance was one of convenience rather than friendship, with each ultimately self-serving.

Jioral Kingdom
As the Sword Hero, Blade maintained strong ties to the Jioral Kingdom, benefiting from its support and prestige. Despite her misconduct, she retained her position due to her combat value, reflecting the kingdom’s prioritization of military power over personal morality.

Power and Abilities

Heroic Traits
As one of the Four Heroes, Blade possesses unique abilities beyond those of ordinary humans. Her status grants her a Level Cap Break, allowing her to level indefinitely without restriction, surpassing the natural limits of the human body. She also benefits from increased experience gain, which doubles the rate of growth for her and her allies, stacking further when accompanied by other Heroes.

Swordsmanship
Blade wields considerable strength and destructive capability in combat, capable of leveling multiple buildings with a single swing at full power. While her swordsmanship is considered unrefined compared to Kureha Clyret, her superior reaction time, brute strength, and innate healing abilities make her a formidable opponent.

Enhanced Senses
Blade demonstrates heightened sensory perception, able to identify Flare by scent alone and anticipate attacks before her opponents visibly act.

Regeneration
Her healing capabilities enable her to recover from severe injuries, including facial wounds, and neutralize toxins such as those from Keyaru’s poisoned blade.

Trivia

    • Blade is the only member of the Four Heroes whose sexuality is explicitly stated in the series, portrayed as a lesbian with obsessive and predatory tendencies.
      • In the light novel and manga, her Ragnarok ability causes her body to grow in muscular mass during combat. In the anime adaptation, however, this is altered to a glowing aura rather than a physical transformation.
        • Blade’s short blonde hairstyle and masculine clothing choices are tied to her tendency to cross-dress in order to deceive and lure her victims.
          • Despite being granted the title of Sword Hero, her swordsmanship is described within the narrative as less refined than that of Kureha Clyret, relying instead on raw power, regeneration, and enhanced senses.
            • Her notoriety as a predator predates her role as a Hero, with Mirula’s father being among those who swore vengeance against her for her actions as an adventurer.
