Shin Reglia

Shin Reglia (シン・レグリア, Shin Reguria) is the right-hand man of the Demon King Anos Voldigoad and the strongest swordsman among demons. Renowned for his unmatched skill and unwavering loyalty, he stood at Anos’ side during the Mythical Age. He later became the husband of the Great Spirit Reno and fathered their daughter, Misa. Shin Reglia’s Appearance in Anime

Shin Reglia was originally born not as a man, but as a demon sword forged by ancient demons to fight against the gods. Over countless battles, the sword gradually developed a will of its own. His final wielder, realizing the sword’s limitations in destroying gods, entrusted Shin with all of his power before vanishing. From that moment, Shin manifested into the physical form of a demon, though his source remained that of a sword, leaving him unable to fully comprehend human emotions.

During the Great War, Shin sought out strong opponents, defeating countless demons with ease until he confronted the Demon King, Anos Voldigoad. Despite wielding over a hundred demon swords, Shin could not land a decisive blow, as Anos effortlessly countered his strikes. Intrigued, Shin asked Anos why he was so strong. Anos answered simply: “The weak cannot help anyone.” In turn, Anos asked Shin the same, but Shin could only admit he was strong because he was a sword. Recognizing in Anos a master worth following, Shin pledged his loyalty, becoming Anos’ most trusted subordinate and right hand.

Throughout the war, Shin also crossed blades with the Hero Kanon multiple times, often resulting in stalemates. However, Kanon once managed to defeat him, fueling Shin’s drive to sharpen his swordsmanship further. On another occasion, when Anos’ army fell before the Great Spirit Lignon, Shin wagered with his king that he could defeat her in a single strike. True to his word, he cleaved her apart in one blow, and as a reward, he asked Anos to grant him reincarnation so that he could one day continue to serve him.

Near the end of the war, Anos tasked Shin with protecting the Great Spirit Reno from Nosgalia, who sought to use her as the vessel for the “Child of God.” Over time, Shin developed feelings for Reno, and at her request, they married. Before his reincarnation, Reno became pregnant with their child, Misa. However, tragedy struck when Nosgalia fatally wounded Reno. Enraged, Shin dealt him a grievous blow before holding Reno in her final moments. She begged him to end their daughter’s life if she ever threatened the world, but Shin refused, vowing instead to create a place where Misa could live freely.

After Reno’s death, Shin never reincarnated. To ensure Misa’s survival, he spread rumors of Avos Dilhevia and took on the mantle of Spirit King, ruling Aharthern in Reno’s stead. For two thousand years, he continued to hone his swordsmanship until he was truly unrivaled. In the Magical Age, when Misa finally appeared, Shin watched over her from afar while secretly establishing the Unitarians to oppose the rigid demon hierarchy and build a world where his daughter, as a mixed-blood, would be accepted.

Appearance

Shin has a distinctive and imposing look that reflects his origins as a living demon sword. He has short, rough gray hair and cold, colorless eyes that give him an emotionless, detached expression. A prominent vertical scar runs across his left eye, emphasizing both his battle-hardened past and his stoic nature.

His attire typically consists of dark, practical clothing designed for combat. He wears black armor beneath a long black coat, the combination reinforcing his austere and militaristic image. He is rarely seen without a sword at his side, further symbolizing his identity as both warrior and weapon. His appearance is unadorned and severe, matching his personality and singular devotion to battle and duty.

Personality

Shin is a composed, stoic, and disciplined individual whose life has always revolved around the sword. Calm in demeanor and unwavering in resolve, he embodies the archetype of a warrior who lives for battle. According to Anos Voldigoad, Shin is a man of immense strength but little ambition, devoting himself entirely to serving his master with loyalty and precision during the Great War. His detached and emotionless appearance stems from his origins as a demon sword given form, leaving him with difficulty in understanding emotions or matters unrelated to combat.

Nevertheless, Shin is not without pride. As a swordsman, he holds himself to the highest standard, and his first defeat at the hands of Hero Kanon spurred him to refine his skills even further, vowing to never face such humiliation again. While he has often claimed to be incapable of love, his actions speak otherwise. Through his unwavering dedication to Reno, the Great Spirit, and his protective care for their daughter Misa, Shin has demonstrated a deep if understated capacity for affection. His loyalty, whether to Anos as his master or to his family, defines him as much as his unparalleled skill with the sword.

Abilities

Immense Magic Power
Despite being less proficient in spellcasting than other high-ranking demons, Shin possessed a staggering amount of magic power. Anos himself regarded him as one of the strongest beings of the Mythical Age. His power grew exponentially when amplified by Reno’s Alha Alfrem, allowing him to contend evenly against a fully empowered Nosgalia, a feat beyond most demons.

Immense Speed
Shin’s speed bordered on instantaneous movement. He defeated the Great Water Spirit Lignon and returned to his kneeling posture so quickly it appeared as if he had never moved. During his duel with Lay, he not only kept pace but occasionally outstripped him, overwhelming even the fastest swordsmen of the modern age. His reflexes allowed him to disable Eldmed’s limbs in an instant with his Pillage Blade, and he could still keep up with Arcana, even when she moved at the speed of light under the Order of Light.

Master Swordsman
Known as the strongest swordsman in demon history, Shin had mastered every demon sword in existence and developed over a thousand distinct sword techniques. He was feared even by gods, having defeated divine entities in battle, and famously cut down the Great Water Spirit with a simple iron sword. Lay noted that Shin could simultaneously face the Four Evil Kings and emerge victorious. His growth continued across millennia, refining his mastery of the Hidden Art and overwhelming powerful beings such as divine beasts and Nosgalia’s vessels. He even proved capable of battling Arcana, a god who had absorbed multiple divine orders, through sheer swordsmanship.

Master Educator
Beyond his battlefield prowess, Shin demonstrated considerable skill as a teacher. As an instructor at the Demon King Academy, he significantly improved the swordsmanship of Class 1-2, imparting techniques and strategies that allowed his students to adapt and grow at a remarkable pace.

Relationships

Anos Voldigoad
Shin is regarded as Anos’ most loyal and devoted subordinate, faithfully serving him during the Great War and beyond. His loyalty was so profound that his sole request after defeating the Great Water Spirit was to be allowed the right to reincarnate, so that he could continue serving Anos in another life. However, Shin’s devotion was later tested when he was forced to choose between preserving his daughter Misa’s existence by spreading the legend of the false Demon King Avos Dilhevia or remaining loyal to Anos. Though this decision caused him to seemingly betray his master, it was born entirely from his desire to protect Misa. Upon their reunion two thousand years later, Anos assured Shin that he had made the right choice and that he himself would have commanded Shin to protect his child above all else.

Reno
Reno, the Great Spirit and mother of Misa, was Shin’s beloved wife. She is the one who taught Shin about love and emotions, allowing him to grow beyond being a weapon and live as a man capable of change. Shin cherished Reno deeply, and her death at the hands of Nosgalia left him devastated. Even after her passing, her influence shaped Shin’s every action, particularly his commitment to protecting their daughter.

Misa Iliorogue
Shin treasures his daughter above all else and made her well-being the driving force behind his actions after Reno’s death. His decision to spread the rumors of Avos Dilhevia was motivated entirely by his desire to ensure Misa’s continued existence as a spirit born from legend. This love for his daughter often placed him in direct conflict with his loyalty to Anos, a burden he carried for centuries.

Kanon
Among all of Anos’ adversaries, Shin considered the human Hero Kanon to be his greatest rival and the only swordsman capable of defeating him in combat, a feat Kanon accomplished at least once. This rare defeat drove Shin to refine his swordsmanship even further. Despite being on opposing sides during the Great War, Shin held deep respect for Kanon’s skill and spirit. Two thousand years later, Shin entrusted his daughter Misa’s future to the reincarnated Kanon, now known as Lay, recognizing him as both an ally and family.

Nosgalia
Shin views the Heavenly Father God Nosgalia as his sworn enemy, despising him for the pain and suffering inflicted upon his family. Nosgalia forced Reno into tragedy, tormented Misa’s existence, and compelled Shin into actions that weighed heavily on his conscience. This long-standing enmity culminated in the Magical Age, where Shin was most grateful to Anos for allowing him to personally deliver the final blow to Nosgalia.

Trivia

    • Shin has a poor aptitude for source magic. Anos noted that if Shin were to reincarnate, he would likely lose both his memories and skills, to which Shin himself admitted he might have to start over by forging a new sword.
      • He is known to have an especially poor affinity with most magical items aside from demon swords. As a result, Shin developed the philosophy of solving every problem with the sword alone, further cementing his reputation as the ultimate swordsman.
