Deep Blue (ディープ・ブルー, Dīpu Burū) is the primary antagonist of the Tokyo Mew Mew series and serves as the leader of the alien forces opposing the Mew Mews. As the central villain, he represents the greatest threat to Earth and humanity, commanding his subordinates Kish, Pai, and Taruto in their mission to reclaim the planet for their kind.
Personality

Appearance as Blue Knight
Deep Blue is depicted as a cold, ruthless, and detached figure with a pronounced messiah complex. He views himself as absolute and unquestionable, showing no hesitation in unleashing mass destruction or killing anyone who opposes him even his own alien kin. Arrogant and self-aggrandizing, he frequently belittles others and treats his alternate forms with disdain, considering them worthless.
In the manga and 2002 anime adaptation, Deep Blue is portrayed with strong sadistic traits, taking pleasure in the devastation he causes and openly mocking humanity as inferior. In these versions, his motives lean heavily toward self-centered domination, seeking to reclaim Earth for himself alone.
By contrast, in Tokyo Mew Mew New, Deep Blue is given a more humanized portrayal. While still ruthless, he expresses greater emphasis on his resentment of humanity’s mistreatment of Earth and his desire to restore the planet for his people. This version underscores his role as an ideological adversary rather than simply a sadistic tyrant. Ultimately, through Ichigo’s compassion and Masaya Aoyama’s influence, he is persuaded to abandon his destructive goals. In this adaptation, Deep Blue vanishes peacefully, expressing gratitude to Ichigo for her kindness.
Appearance
Deep Blue is portrayed as a tall, imposing figure with pale skin, long jet-black hair, and crystalline blue eyes, embodying the otherworldly traits of the alien race. His attire closely resembles that of the Blue Knight, consisting of a flowing blue outfit that accentuates his regal yet menacing presence. In combat, he wields a sword, which serves as both his primary weapon and a symbol of his authority as leader of the aliens.
Powers and Abilities
Deep Blue possesses formidable powers that make him the most dangerous adversary in the Tokyo Mew Mew series. His alter ego, the Blue Knight, first appears as Ichigo’s mysterious protector, and both share the same sword as their primary weapon. Unlike the Blue Knight, however, Deep Blue uses the blade to unleash devastating energy-based attacks.
Among his known abilities, Deep Blue can release blast waves resembling blue lightning, as well as project fiery energy from his palms. He also demonstrates advanced supernatural capabilities, including the power of flight and instantaneous teleportation, allowing him to traverse great distances or evade opponents with ease.
Relationships
Masaya Aoyama
Deep Blue’s human vessel is Masaya Aoyama, Ichigo’s love interest. While Masaya represents kindness and gentleness, Deep Blue embodies the destructive force hidden within him. The two are essentially opposing identities, with Masaya struggling against Deep Blue’s influence. Their duality serves as one of the central conflicts of the series.
The Blue Knight
The Blue Knight is another of Masaya’s alter egos, created unconsciously as Ichigo’s protector. Although originally perceived as a separate individual, the Blue Knight is later revealed to be an extension of Deep Blue. Where the Blue Knight symbolizes Masaya’s protective instincts, Deep Blue represents his destructive and absolute side.
Ichigo Momomiya
Ichigo stands as Deep Blue’s greatest enemy, both as the leader of the Mew Mews and as the person closest to Masaya. While Deep Blue regards her with disdain and hostility, Ichigo’s compassion toward Masaya ultimately plays a pivotal role in overcoming Deep Blue’s destructive will.
Kish, Pai, and Taruto
As the leader of the alien forces, Deep Blue commands Kish, Pai, and Taruto. Though they serve him loyally, Deep Blue shows no genuine concern for their lives and views them as expendable tools in his mission. His ruthlessness extends even to them, emphasizing his cold and detached nature as a leader.
