Lu Guang

Lu Guang (陆光; Lù Guāng) is the deuteragonist of the Chinese animated series (donghua) Link Click. He possesses the ability to perceive all events that occurred within the twelve hours following the moment a photograph was taken. Working alongside his partner Cheng Xiaoshi, he shares a consciousness link that allows him to guide and restrict Cheng Xiaoshi’s actions while inhabiting another person’s body. Together, they run the Time Photo Studio, offering their services to clients who seek to alter or understand events captured in photographs.

Appearance in Anime

Lu Guang is depicted as tall and slender, with a physique similar to Cheng Xiaoshi’s. He has pale skin, long eyelashes, and steel-grey eyes. His white, fluffy hair reaches his ears and is often illustrated as sweeping upward in the direction he faces, contrasting sharply with his darker eyebrows.

In Season 1, his standard outfit consists of a loose-fitting dark grey T-shirt layered under a white dress shirt, paired with dark blue-grey slacks and white sneakers with black socks. Official artwork released by Bilibili and INPLICK frequently portrays him in this attire, typically emphasizing his black-and-white color palette with occasional blue accents in his hair or clothing to highlight his character theme color of blue.

In Season 2, following the conclusion of the first season, Lu Guang is shown wearing white pajamas with blue details, including a shirt pocket designed with a small white cat peeking out. While hospitalized, he is also seen wearing white cat slippers. When outdoors, he typically switches to plain white shoes.

As an accessory, he consistently wears a large, flat black digital watch on his right wrist, which he often uses to coordinate time jumps with Cheng Xiaoshi. When using his ability to perceive events within a photo, his eyes shift from their natural steel-grey to a distinct icy blue.

Personality

Lu Guang is portrayed as calm, serious, and somewhat stoic, often serving as a foil to Cheng Xiaoshi’s impulsive and lighthearted personality. More mature and disciplined than his partner, he is frequently teased by others for his strict and serious outlook. His reserved nature and reluctance to share personal thoughts contribute to the sense of mystery surrounding him.

Given the responsibility of managing the risks associated with their work, Lu Guang consistently demonstrates professionalism and composure. He is able to remain rational and detached in difficult situations, rarely losing control of his emotions. On the rare occasions that he does, it is usually in response to Cheng Xiaoshi’s recklessness and the potential consequences of altering the timeline.

Despite his reserved attitude, Lu Guang is not devoid of empathy. He often shows quiet compassion toward clients and strangers alike, such as comforting Li Doudou’s father, helping Xu Shanshan without requiring payment, and fulfilling Chen Xiao’s last request to send messages to loved ones lost in an earthquake—even while knowing the truth would weigh heavily on Cheng Xiaoshi. His understated kindness also extends to his friends; he consistently looks after both Cheng Xiaoshi and Qiao Ling in subtle ways, offering support without judgment.

For all his composure, Lu Guang occasionally reveals a self-conscious side. He embarrasses easily, such as when Qiao Ling defeats him in a mobile game or when Cheng Xiaoshi jokingly calls him an “old man” in front of others. Though not naturally inclined toward humor, he tolerates Cheng Xiaoshi’s antics with patience, suggesting a quiet fondness for his partner’s playfulness.

Abilities

Future Vision
Lu Guang has the ability to perceive all events that occur within a twelve-hour window following the moment a photograph was taken. When using this ability, his eyes change to a distinct icy blue color.

Shared Consciousness
Through his connection with Cheng Xiaoshi, Lu Guang can share the consciousness of the person Cheng Xiaoshi inhabits. This link allows him to guide and direct Cheng Xiaoshi’s actions while inside another person’s body. However, his awareness has limitations; for example, in Episode 7 he fails to notice the influence of a ball’s scent on Dou Dou, as he cannot perceive smells through this connection.

Time Jumper
Following Cheng Xiaoshi’s near-death, Lu Guang temporarily inherits his partner’s photo-jumping ability. Using this power, he returns to the beginning of events by possessing his past self, attempting to fulfill Cheng Xiaoshi’s dying wish to save everyone. While using this ability, his eyes shift to gold, similar to Cheng Xiaoshi’s transformation. After remaining in the past for more than twelve hours, his eyes revert to their natural color. This leaves him stranded in the altered timeline, unable to return to the original one or use the power again until it is passed to him in the future.

Relationships

Cheng Xiaoshi
Lu Guang first met Cheng Xiaoshi during their university years, when Cheng invited him to join a basketball game with mutual friends. The two quickly bonded, with Lu Guang drawn to Cheng Xiaoshi’s innocence and sincerity, while Cheng came to see Lu Guang as someone dependable. Their connection led Cheng Xiaoshi to propose that they should one day become partners, a promise that came to fruition when the two later opened the Time Photo Studio together after graduation.

During university, they socialized within the same group of friends, including Qiao Ling, Xu Shanshan, and Dong Yi. Their shared experiences eventually developed into a close partnership, with Lu Guang providing discipline and foresight to balance Cheng Xiaoshi’s impulsive nature.

Qiao Ling
Lu Guang and Qiao Ling’s first meeting occurs when she notices him passing the Time Photo Studio and realizes his connection to Cheng Xiaoshi. Curious, she invites him to assist with the studio’s renovation. When left alone together, Qiao Ling questions his reasons for befriending Cheng Xiaoshi, to which Lu Guang replies that he values Cheng’s genuineness and naivety—an answer she later admits resonates with her as well.

Though their bond is less prominent than either’s relationship with Cheng Xiaoshi, Qiao Ling and Lu Guang share a subtle fondness and mutual respect. She affectionately calls him “Guang Guang” and often remarks that he is the more reliable of the two partners. Lu Guang, in turn, entrusts her with keeping Cheng Xiaoshi from acting recklessly and discreetly looks out for her safety, such as when he intervenes after suspecting Chen Xiao of attempting to harm her during a morning run.

Xiao Li
Lu Guang meets Captain Xiao Li during the investigation of Dou Dou’s kidnapping, where Xiao Li accompanies Dou Dou’s father to the Time Photo Studio seeking help. Their relationship develops further after the case concludes, with Xiao Li revealing his awareness of Cheng Xiaoshi’s time-traveling abilities. Despite Xiao Li’s attempts to enlist them in an ongoing serial murder investigation, Lu Guang already uneasy about their involvement ultimately declines after realizing that Emma is among the victims.

Etymology

Lu Guang’s surname, 陆 (Lù), is a common family name in southern China. Beyond its use as a surname, 陆 can also mean “land” or “shore” (陆地, lùdì). His given name, 光 (Guāng), translates to “light” or “brilliance,” giving his full name a possible interpretation of “light of the shore.”

His given name can also be combined with the final character of Cheng Xiaoshi’s name, 时 (shí, meaning “time” or “hour”), to form the word 时光 (shíguāng), which means “time” in the sense of flowing moments and memories. This word appears prominently in the series title, Shiguang Dailiren (时光代理人, Link Click), and in the name of the duo’s workplace, the Time Photo Studio (时光照相馆, shíguāng zhàoxiàngguǎn).

In promotional artwork released before the premiere of Season 1, Lu Guang’s official English name was given as “Lucas,” derived from the Latin verb lucere (“to shine”), with the name itself meaning “light.”
