Hyuse (ヒュース, Hyūsu) is a character from the World Trigger manga and anime series. He is a Neighbor from the planet Aftokrator who, following a confrontation with Yūichi Jin during the large-scale invasion, is left behind on Earth by his allies. Upon realizing his abandonment, Hyuse decides to join Border not out of loyalty, but as a calculated move to return to his homeworld.
Appearance

Appearance in Anime
Hyuse is a humanoid Neighbor with short, tousled light brown hair, pale skin, and blue-green eyes. As a native of Aftokrator, he possesses a pair of horns, which are a distinguishing feature of his race. His horns, resembling those of a goat, protrude from behind his temples, above the ears. Their curvature has been inconsistently depicted sometimes curving downward, inward, or upward though they remain a defining part of his appearance.
When using his Aftokrator Trigger, Hyuse dons a gray uniform reminiscent of a gakuran (a traditional Japanese school uniform). The outfit features black edging around the fastener, which appears to function like velcro, and black, spike-like patterns that run from his shoulders down toward the chest. Over this, he wears a black cloak likely a Trigger accessory with a bold red stripe on the left side intersected by five circles, possibly indicating rank or status. His footwear includes black shoes with white vertical stripes, gray soles, and slight heels.
After being abandoned on Earth, Hyuse adopts civilian clothing to blend into human society. He is frequently seen wearing a black hoodie with brown trim and a gray devil-like emblem on the left side of the chest, typically worn with the hood up to conceal his horns. Underneath, he wears a gray shirt with a black collar, along with ochre pants, black shoes, and white or gray gloves.
As a Border agent, Hyuse uses a Trion Body to hide his horns and assume a human appearance. While ranked C-Rank, he wears a uniform similar to that of Yūma Kuga’s. Upon being promoted to B-Rank and joining Tamakoma Second, his uniform changes to a custom design resembling a military-style outfit. This version includes shoulder straps, dual sleeve stripes, and a decorative aiguillette on his right shoulder. The Tamakoma Branch emblem is displayed on his left chest beneath his team’s insignia.
Personality
Hyuse is a calm, composed, and strategic individual who rarely allows his emotions to override his judgment. He carries himself with quiet confidence and a strong sense of discipline, reflecting his military upbringing and loyalty to Aftokrator. He demonstrates deep respect for his superiors, particularly Hyrein and his mentor, Viza. However, his loyalty also makes him highly sensitive to insults directed at his homeland or comrades. He is quick to anger when those he respects are disrespected, as seen when he bristled at Enedora for calling Hyrein a coward, or when he initially dismissed Jin’s claim that Enedora had been executed by his own allies.
Despite his stoic exterior, Hyuse harbors strong emotional ties to House Ellin, particularly its head, and experiences internal conflict upon realizing he may be sacrificed by the very leaders he serves. This moment of doubt reveals a more personal and vulnerable side to his otherwise disciplined nature.
Hyuse also has a competitive streak. During the Border trainee exams, he displayed a desire to surpass Yūma Kuga’s performance and requested a reattempt to beat his score, suggesting that, while pragmatic, he takes pride in his abilities and is driven to prove himself.
Abilities
Combat Skills
Hyuse is recognized as an exceptionally skilled and versatile warrior, praised by both allies and enemies alike. He was the youngest member of Hyrein’s Expedition Force in Aftokrator, a testament to his talent and combat readiness. On Earth, he has proven his strength by holding his own against some of Border’s top agents, including Reiji Kizaki and Kyōsuke Karasuma simultaneously, and later fighting Yūichi Jin to a stalemate.
Using his Horn Trigger, Hyuse has shown overwhelming force, effortlessly subduing opponents like Reghindetz and his Trion Soldiers. Shortly after officially joining Border as a B-Rank agent, Hyuse fought against multiple skilled opponents including two ace combatants and a former A-Rank team member and demonstrated remarkable multitasking, strategic foresight, and superior peripheral awareness, enabling him to anticipate and respond to surprise attacks with ease.
Trion
Hyuse possesses exceptionally high Trion levels, second within Border only to Chika Amatori. Originally born with above-average Trion by Aftokrator standards, his Trion capacity and quality were further enhanced through the implantation of Trion Receptors. These implants refine his control and manipulation of Trion, enabling him to wield Enhanced Triggers that are normally beyond the reach of average soldiers. Even with Border-issued Triggers, his high Trion levels grant him both strong offensive capabilities and exceptional defensive endurance during prolonged battles.
Track Record
Hyuse has compiled an impressive track record both in and outside of training. On his first attempt at the Colossal Neighbor Simulation, he cleared it in 1.5 seconds ranking just behind Yūma Kuga. With a standard Kogetsu, he has defeated multiple C-Rank agents simultaneously and has consistently bested highly ranked B-Rank agents in one-on-one combat.
These accomplishments further highlight Hyuse’s rapid adaptation to Border’s combat system and his elite combat capabilities.
Relationships
Osamu Mikumo
Hyuse collaborates closely with Osamu Mikumo after joining Tamakoma Second, as both share a mutual interest in reaching Aftokrator Osamu seeking answers and Hyuse seeking a return home. Initially, Hyuse does not consider Osamu a friend, as noted before Round 7 of the Rank Wars. However, their relationship gradually evolves, with signs of camaraderie emerging by the end of Round 8, where Hyuse fist bumps both Osamu and Yūma. While Hyuse generally respects Osamu’s leadership and strategies, he has been willing to override or adjust plans when necessary, such as modifying their tactics during Round 7 by choosing to use Asteroid instead of the original plan.
Yūma Kuga
Hyuse and Yūma develop a mutually respectful dynamic, particularly as sparring partners. Hyuse is shown to be competitive with Yūma, especially regarding training scores and combat performance. Their synergy in battle is notably strong; together they successfully took down high-ranking agents such as Isami Murakami and Sōta Kitazoe during Rank Wars, and nearly defeated Kageura as well. Their cooperative performance reflects a growing bond built on shared skill and trust in combat situations.
Chika Amatori
Though not outwardly expressive, Hyuse demonstrates a subtle sense of care toward Chika. His words and presence during the Rank Wars serve as a pivotal influence that encourages Chika to overcome her fear of shooting people directly. His support plays a role in her character growth, and their relationship is further solidified when he fist bumps her after the Night Match in Round 8, suggesting a level of trust and team cohesion.
Yūichi Jin
Hyuse harbors a complicated relationship with Jin. He initially mistrusts and dislikes him, particularly due to the circumstances of his abandonment on Earth and Jin’s involvement in the events leading to it. Despite this, Hyuse appears to hold a grudging respect for Jin. This is shown when he smiles upon hearing that Jin praised him only to be mildly surprised when it’s revealed that Jin fabricated the compliment. Their dynamic remains tense but layered with subtle acknowledgment.
Etymology
The name Hyuse (ヒュース, Hyūsu) is written in katakana, suggesting that it is of foreign origin or derived from a fictional language, as is common with Neighbors from other worlds in World Trigger. The name does not have a specific meaning in Japanese but is consistent with Aftokrator’s naming conventions, which often feature Western or European-sounding names. His alias while posing as a Border agent, Hyuse Cronin (ヒュース・クローニン), further reinforces this theme, with “Cronin” likely chosen to sound convincingly foreign to match his cover story as Cronin’s nephew.
