Komoe

Komoe (コモエ) is a recurring character in the series Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy. She is the second offshoot or fragment created by Tomoe following the demise of the original. Like her predecessor, Komoe’s primary role is to assist in the supervision and information gathering related to Asora, the alternate space established and maintained by Makoto Misumi. Despite her youthful appearance and playful personality, Komoe holds an important administrative position within the expanding realm of Asora.

Personality

Appearance in Anime

Komoe is characterized by her naivety, cheerful disposition, and playful behavior, often spending her time interacting with the various inhabitants of Asora. She exhibits a respectful and polite manner when speaking to Makoto Misumi, addressing him with the deference expected of someone in her position.

Although her personality closely resembles that of Tomoe’s first offshoot, it differs enough for Makoto to recognize that she is not the same entity. As with all of Tomoe’s fragments, Komoe is not a true clone but an individual with a distinct personality, thoughts, and behaviors emphasizing the uniqueness of each offshoot created by Tomoe.

Appearance

Komoe closely resembles a miniature or “chibi” version of Tomoe, standing at a height that barely reaches Makoto Misumi’s waist. Her appearance mirrors that of Tomoe’s first offshoot, maintaining a youthful and adorable look.

Like Tomoe, Komoe wears traditional Japanese-style clothing, consisting of a kimono paired with hakama trousers. However, her hairstyle sets her apart: she features bangs in the front, and her hair varies depending on the adaptation. In the manga, she is depicted with a high ponytail, similar to Tomoe’s own style. In contrast, the light novel portrays her with long, loose hair that flows freely down her back.

Biography

Komoe was created by Tomoe shortly after the death of her first offshoot. Intended as a secret weapon and support figure, she was tasked with assisting in the training of the Forest Ogres, one of the newer races to arrive in Asora. At Tomoe’s encouragement, Komoe introduced herself to Makoto Misumi, who initially mistook her for the original offshoot. However, he quickly recognized subtle differences in her personality, confirming that she was a new entity.

Realizing he had never named the first offshoot, Makoto decided to give this one a name, choosing “Komoe” a gesture made with both respect and sentiment. Tomoe later revealed that Komoe was created using a combination of her own mana and a charged Draupnir ring filled with Makoto’s magic. This fusion granted Komoe greater resilience and magical potential, making her far more durable than her predecessor.

Tomoe jokingly remarked that since Komoe was born of both their energies, she was essentially “their child.” Prompted by this, Komoe innocently referred to Makoto as “Father” (お父さま, Otou-sama), only to be immediately corrected by a jealous Mio, who insisted she address him as “Young Master” (若様, Waka-sama) instead.

Powers and Abilities

Physical Abilities
Komoe possesses enhanced physical and sensory capabilities inherited from her predecessor, but with significantly improved durability and resilience. Her body was created using a fusion of Tomoe’s mana and Makoto Misumi’s magic, making her biologically tougher and more resistant to harm. One notable example of her durability is her ability to survive the hazardous meals prepared by Mio during her early attempts at cooking, a feat that few others could endure.

Spiritual Connection
As with the original offshoot, Komoe maintains a spiritual link with Tomoe. This connection allows Tomoe to sense any intense emotional or physical distress Komoe experiences, enabling her to intervene or respond to emergencies involving her offshoot.

Magic
Komoe retains the magical attributes of the first offshoot but at a higher caliber. She is proficient in water manipulation and barrier creation, with her spells being more powerful due to her enhanced magical origin. Her combat utility and defensive capabilities are thus considerably stronger than her predecessor’s.

Fog Gates
Komoe is capable of accessing and traveling through Mist Gates, the portals that connect to and from Asora. However, her use of these gates is conditional she must receive permission from either Tomoe or Makoto to activate them. In most cases, Makoto’s authorization is required for her to use this ability freely.

Equipment

Komoe wields a long katana forged by the Elder Dwarves, known for their exceptional craftsmanship. The weapon is notably disproportionate to her small stature, as it was originally designed for an adult or teenage-sized wielder. As a result, the katana is actually longer than Komoe is tall. Despite the size mismatch, she is capable of wielding it effectively, showcasing both her strength and combat proficiency.

Trivia

    • Unlike her predecessor, Komoe demonstrates a greater degree of independence from Tomoe, both in behavior and decision-making. While she still shares a spiritual connection with Tomoe, it has been stated that each of Tomoe’s fragments possesses its own unique personality.
      • Although initially mentioned jokingly by Tomoe, Komoe could be considered a symbolic daughter of Makoto and Tomoe, as her creation involved the fusion of Makoto’s mana (via a charged Draupnir ring) and Tomoe’s own magical energy. This dual-origin concept has led to lighthearted speculation among characters in the series about her “parentage.”
