Shiki (識, Shiki), formerly known as Larva, is one of the main characters in Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy. He is a powerful Lich who later becomes one of Makoto Misumi’s contracted followers. After his defeat and subsequent contract with Makoto, Shiki renounces his former identity and adopts his new name as a symbol of his rebirth and loyalty. He currently serves as Makoto’s primary researcher and magic scholar, assisting in both combat and intellectual pursuits within the Demi-Plane.
Personality

Appearance in Anime
Shiki is a highly intellectual and research-driven individual, with an insatiable thirst for knowledge. He is deeply dedicated to study and experimentation, often displaying workaholic tendencies in his pursuit of magical and scholarly advancement. This passion for learning continues to shape his worldview and his interactions with others, even after his transformation from the Lich known as Larva to his current self under Makoto Misumi’s contract.
Despite his generally calm and composed nature, Shiki exhibits some unusual habits such as striking the ground before casting spells, a behavior possibly rooted in his past as a Lich. When provoked or overwhelmed by emotion, the red glow once associated with his undead form can briefly return to his eyes, signaling remnants of his former self.
Interestingly, Shiki suffers from seasickness, a trait that contrasts sharply with his otherwise composed persona. To manage this, he relies on levitation magic to avoid the motion of sea travel altogether.
Appearance
In his hyuman form, Shiki appears as a refined and handsome young man with striking red hair tied into a ponytail and vibrant emerald green eyes. His clothing reflects a balance of practicality and subtle elegance. He wears a long, form-fitting dark brown jacket over a teal T-shirt with white trim and a high neckline. His lower attire consists of an ankle-length cream skirt layered over wide brown pants, creating a contrast between the muted tones of his upper and lower garments. A green belt with gold edging is tied around his waist, completing the ensemble.
Shiki opts for simple brown boots, reinforcing his modest and utilitarian style. He wears no visible jewelry or decorative accessories. His primary weapon is a luxurious staff wrapped in a silk-like fabric, which conceals the state of his equipment. The staff can transform its tip into a golden, spear-like blade when needed.
In his original form as a Lich, Shiki appears as a skeletal undead figure draped in a black robe adorned with magical golden embroidery. His eyes are replaced by glowing red lights within hollow sockets, contributing to a menacing and otherworldly presence. He wields a pitch-black rod capable of transforming into a massive scythe, giving him the appearance of a grim reaper. The rod can also take the form of Ascalon, a powerful weapon with sacred connotations.
Background
Shiki’s true origins and original name remain unknown. What is known is that he was once a brilliant and highly knowledgeable magic researcher. At some point whether by his own will or through circumstance he became a Lich, a powerful form of undead sustained by magical knowledge and arcane mastery.
The exact time and method of his transformation remain unclear, but by the time he appears in the story, Shiki has existed as a Lich for a considerable length of time. During this period, he built a formidable reputation across the world, both feared and respected for his magical prowess and depth of knowledge. His notoriety, however, eventually brings him into conflict with Makoto Misumi, a confrontation that ends in Shiki’s defeat and reformation under Makoto’s contract, leading him to abandon his former identity as Larva.
Abilities
Although not on the level of a Greater Dragon, Shiki formerly known as Larva is considered a high-ranking existence within the Goddess’s world. As a Lich, he possesses vast magical capabilities and is proficient in nearly all schools of magic. His greatest specialization lies in healing magic, which he performs through a fusion of Earth and Wind elemental spells. He is also an accomplished magical scholar, with extensive theoretical and practical knowledge. His deep understanding of ancient relics, magical artifacts, and biological experimentation further solidifies his role as both a formidable mage and a researcher.
As a Lich, Shiki wields necromantic powers, allowing him to summon, control, and manipulate undead beings. He also has some mastery over life force itself, granting him abilities that touch on both healing and disruption of vitality. His control over the undead makes him a dangerous force in both large-scale battles and magical experimentation.
In addition to his magical prowess, Shiki is immortal in the conventional sense. He no longer ages and is sustained entirely through magical means, making him immune to death by natural causes. Killing him through traditional methods is extremely difficult, as his body is not bound by the same limitations as living beings.
Equipment
Staffs
Shiki wields two distinct staffs depending on his form. In his Hyuman form, he uses a luxurious staff crafted by the Elder Dwarves. Wrapped in silk-like cloth, the staff has the unique ability to conceal the state of its equipment. The tip of the staff can transform into a golden, spear-like blade resembling a knife, enhancing its utility in both offense and concealment.
In his Lich form, Shiki uses a pitch-black staff with minimal ornamentation, resembling more of a rod due to the absence of a magic catalyzer, such as an orb. This staff can transform into a giant scythe, giving Shiki the appearance of a grim reaper. It can also shift into a powerful weapon known as Ascalon.
Ascalon
Ascalon is a massive, cursed claymore that Shiki can summon through an incantation.
When invoked, the staff radiates a red moon-like glow and transforms into the greatsword. The weapon is paired with Shiki’s 6th Step ability, Fray, which allows him to become temporarily possessed by the spirit of the sword and inherit the swordsmanship of individuals he has observed specifically, Makoto and Hibiki’s kendo instructor from Makoto’s memories. Ascalon is imbued with deadly poison and malediction, capable of inflicting lasting damage even on Greater Dragons. Despite its power, the sword lacks the traditional radiance of a holy relic or the ominous aura of a cursed weapon. Shiki named it after the legendary dragon-slaying sword of the same name.
Rings (Draupnir)
To complete his ruling pact with Makoto whose power was overwhelmingly superior Shiki was given 13 Draupnir rings infused with Makoto’s magical energy. These red rings were necessary to balance the disparity in power during the contract. Upon the pact’s completion, the rings fused with Shiki’s new Hyuman body. Over time, they began to evolve and eventually transformed into the 13 Steps, a unique system of magical abilities. Each ring grants Shiki a different power, making him highly versatile in combat. While not all details are known, it is implied that the rings have distinct attributes and possibly different colors.
