Makoto Misumi (深澄 真, Misumi Makoto) is the main protagonist of the light novel, manga, and anime series Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy. He is one of the three individuals from Earth who are summoned to the world governed by the Goddess. Originally intended to be the sole summoned hero under the terms of a divine contract made between the Goddess and his parents, Makoto is ultimately cast aside by the Goddess due to his appearance, which she deems unattractive by her standards.
Personality

Appearance in Anime
Makoto Misumi is initially depicted as an average high school student socially awkward, emotionally naïve, and unremarkable in both academics and athletics. He often uses archery practice as a means to relieve emotional and social stress, and struggles to regulate his emotions when this outlet is unavailable.
Despite his modest beginnings, Makoto is inherently sincere, humble, and kind-hearted, qualities noted by Tsukuyomi and others. His genuine and modest nature tends to attract affection from those around him, although he is often oblivious to romantic advances. According to his elder sister, Makoto has difficulty seeing girls who express interest in him as anything more than friends or family. This emotional distance contributes to his reputation as a late bloomer when it comes to romantic relationships.
Makoto holds deep affection for his family, particularly his sisters, but also harbors a darker side. Under extreme stress or anger, his expression becomes lifeless and his tone turns cold and calm. In this state, he displays a ruthless streak, capable of extreme violence in defense of his values or loved ones. For instance, his first encounter with a hostile Hyuman led him to pursue and kill without hesitation, only realizing afterward that he felt no remorse. This emotional detachment disturbed him, leading to a breakdown where he questioned whether he had lost his humanity. His companions Mio, Tomoe, and Shiki later assured him that it was his humanity that helped them grow more human-like themselves.
Makoto’s attitude toward Hyumans is shaped by his early traumatic experiences in the Goddess’s world. Immediately after being summoned, he was scorned and exiled by the Goddess, who sent him to the Wasteland and denied him the ability to communicate in the Common Language. While non-Hyuman races welcomed him with understanding, most Hyumans treated him with disdain or prejudice, leading to an unconscious bias. This is particularly evident in his distrust of Hyumans who reflect the Goddess’s arrogance or prejudice. However, Makoto does not direct this bias toward all Hyumans, only those who exhibit discriminatory behavior. Tomoe, one of his closest allies, continues to remind him that not all Hyumans are the same, and that he too is one of them.
As a fighter, Makoto unconsciously smiles in the heat of battle, especially when driven by strong emotions such as anger or when his loved ones are insulted. This unsettling trait is first observed by Tomoe and Shiki. His tendency to act with extreme force, as seen when he defeated the self-proclaimed god Samal for insulting his parents, showcases the intensity of his protective instincts.
In the world he governs, Makoto leads the realm of Asora, a sanctuary he created within the Wasteland. He designs it as a utopia for powerful non-Hyuman races, offering asylum to those discriminated against by the Goddess’s world. Though he entrusts much of the selection process to his followers, Makoto insists that potential migrants live harmoniously with others and reject prejudice. This open-handed policy makes Asora a growing haven for diverse races, with many beginning to revere him as a divine figure. Despite this worship, Makoto finds the idea deeply uncomfortable and asks Tamaki to discourage such veneration.
Makoto is uncomfortable around individuals who hide their true intentions behind politeness or smiles, and he prefers to view people in black and white terms either as friends or foes. While this binary view can simplify decision-making for him, it also reveals his struggle with trust. He often chooses to avoid overthinking, which allows him to maintain friendly relationships while feeling justified in acting ruthlessly toward those who threaten him or his people.
Romantically, Makoto remains oblivious to the affections of women around him. He is frequently flustered or dismissive of their advances, even when presented with clear opportunities. In one notable instance, Mio requests to sleep with him as a reward, but quickly changes her request. While intoxicated, Makoto briefly considers the idea but remains hesitant.
Makoto’s sense of justice is rigid, especially when dealing with threats. He has little tolerance for those who endanger his companions and shows no hesitation in eliminating perceived enemies. When attacked by three Shadowless-class assassins, he responded by killing them with brutal efficiency, resulting in conflict with other factions such as Picnic Rose Garden. His justification lies in a simple moral code: if someone tries to harm him or his loved ones, killing them is a natural response.
Although Makoto occasionally displays condescending behavior during battle, it is often unintentional. His overwhelming power and growing detachment from ordinary human experience contribute to this perception.
Appearance
Makoto Misumi is a teenage boy of short stature, standing at approximately 160 cm. He has mid-length black hair and dark eyes, with overall average facial features by Earth’s standards. However, in the Goddess’s world, his appearance is considered unattractive often mistaken for that of a Demi-Human or Kobold due to differing aesthetic ideals.
Makoto’s immense magical power is another defining trait. When not regulated by his mana-absorbing rings, his magical energy overflows, manifesting as a visible, ominous haze that resembles a shimmering desert heat. This aura can be unsettling or awe-inspiring to others, depending on their sensitivity to magic. Despite its intensity, Makoto himself remains unaware of its presence and is unaffected by it, particularly when using his detection and support ability, Sakai.
In emotionally charged or dangerous situations, Makoto’s expression can shift to one of disinterest or coldness, marked visually by a darkening around his eyes. This change often signals the emergence of his more severe or ruthless state of mind.
Biography
Before being summoned to a fantasy world, Makoto Misumi lived an unremarkable life as a high school student in Japan. He lacked ambition in his academic pursuits but was deeply committed to archery, training diligently despite never entering official competitions at the request of his sensei. During his time in the archery club, he was unexpectedly confessed to by two fellow club members Hasegawa and Azuma, the latter being the club’s soon to be president. Although surprised by their feelings, Makoto remained emotionally distant and struggled to understand the motivations behind their dedication to archery.
Despite his uncertainty, Makoto agreed to go on a date with Azuma following her request, though he continued to feel uneasy around her. This lingering discomfort persisted up until the moment he was suddenly summoned to another world by Tsukuyomi, the Moon God of Earth.
Later in the story, specifically in Chapter 102 of the light novel, it is revealed that Makoto’s parents originated from the country of Kaleneon. His father was once a noble, while his mother served as a priestess of the Goddess. This heritage establishes a deeper connection between Makoto and the world he was transported to, though he was initially unaware of his lineage.
Equipment
Makoto Misumi possesses a diverse range of magical weapons, artifacts, and equipment acquired throughout his journey. Many of these items reflect his overwhelming magical power and his connection to various races and craftsmen in the world he now inhabits.
Short Sword
A gift from the Highland Orcs. Upon discovering that the sword was a family heirloom belonging to Toya, Makoto returns it to her as a gesture of compassion.
Dwarf-made Ceremonial Attire
Special clothing crafted by the Elder Dwarves, designed for formal appearances. The outfit passively extracts mana and redirects it into various support functions depending on Makoto’s needs.
Draupnir
A set of enchanted rings that absorb and compress the wearer’s mana. These rings glow red when their storage capacity is nearing its limit. Makoto wears multiple Draupnir to suppress his ever growing magical output, which increases as he trains with his bow or forms new contracts. Due to the immense volume of magic stored within them, retired Draupnir rings are now kept sealed in a treasure chest. An incident involving the attempted theft of these rings led to a massive explosion, resulting in multiple casualties including two humans, a fragment of Tomoe (Mini Tomoe), a Highland Orc, and the near-death of Alke’s Hokuto, who was saved only through Makoto’s intervention. It was later discovered that these rings could serve as powerful magic bombs or as a potential energy source if handled properly.
Azusa Yumi
A powerful longbow forged by the Elder Dwarves. Like the Draupnir, it stores magical energy and converts it into explosive power upon release. When fired, the energy discharges in a single burst, resulting in a devastating explosion, especially at close range. The bow glows red when fully charged.
Silver Arms
A pair of gauntlets created through Makoto’s own power of Creation. Designed with the intent to shatter any form of magical attack including techniques used by powerful beings like Root and Samal, these gauntlets represent one of Makoto’s most intricate and personal inventions. He envisioned them as the ultimate defense, capable of ripping apart even closed-dimensional spaces.
Youkyuu Bow
A simple-looking training bow used when teaching students. Though it appears to be little more than a toy, in Makoto’s hands, even with power-limiting effects, its arrows hit with such intensity and accuracy that students often describe the experience as “dying with every hit.”
Einkaref (エインカリフ)
A sentient sword formerly owned by Muramatsu Iori and later entrusted to Iroha. The blade is long and cylindrical in shape and refers to itself as “the sword of a Dragon Slayer.” It has the ability to speak and carries a proud legacy.
Etymology
Makoto’s given name (真, Makoto) translates to “truth” or “reality.” This is considered ironic, as he was born on April 1st—April Fools’ Day. His older sister, Yukiko, often questions their parents’ naming choices, noting the humorous contrast between the meaning of his name and the nature of his birthday. She also hints at peculiarities in the naming patterns within their family.
His surname, Misumi (深澄), is composed of the kanji 深 (fuka or shin), meaning “deep,” and 澄 (sumi), meaning “clear” or “transparent.” The name was granted by the Goddess to Makoto’s parents when they chose to leave her world and relocate to Earth, referred to as the “Origin World.” The surname is derived from the meaning of his parents’ original names in the Goddess World’s language: “Io” meaning “deep,” and “Tort” meaning “transparent.”
