Cecilia Alcott

Cecilia Alcott is the second main heroine introduced in the Infinite Stratos series. She is a first-year student at the IS Academy and a classmate of the protagonist, Ichika Orimura, in Class 1. Representing the United Kingdom, Cecilia serves as the IS Representative Candidate of England and is also the current head of the prestigious Alcott family. Confident, competitive, and proud of her heritage, she plays a prominent role both as a pilot and as one of the key members of the series’ central cast.

Appearance in Anime

Cecilia Alcott is initially portrayed as prideful and aristocratic, a reflection of her noble upbringing and status as the IS Representative Candidate of the United Kingdom. She often speaks and acts with a sense of superiority, expressing strong national pride and a belief in the excellence of her homeland. Her refined behavior, combined with her haughty attitude, leads to friction with classmates particularly with Ichika Orimura, who challenges her to a duel early in the series after she dismisses Japan’s capabilities.

Beneath her confident exterior, however, Cecilia harbors emotional insecurities. As the only child of a once-distinguished family, she was forced to take on the role of family head after her parents died in a train accident. Her father, in particular, had little influence within the family, which contributed to her desire to marry a strong, capable man, someone who could protect her legacy and stand beside her as an equal. These emotional underpinnings often contrast with her outward snobbishness, making her character more complex than her initial portrayal suggests.

After her duel with Ichika, Cecilia develops romantic feelings for him, partly because he was the first male who did not retreat in the face of her challenges. She begins affectionately referring to him as “Ichika-san” and often seeks opportunities to spend time alone with him. Her attempts to engage with Ichika frequently involve flirtatious or exaggerated behavior, much to the annoyance of other girls in the class especially Houki. While her schemes are often thwarted by classmates or comically misinterpreted, Cecilia persists in her pursuit with charm and tenacity.

Cecilia is known for indulging in romantic fantasies about Ichika, occasionally imagining intimate or suggestive scenarios. These daydreams sometimes influence her behavior, leading her to make bold or inappropriate remarks especially during close interactions, such as massages or beach scenes. Her choice of bold attire has occasionally drawn teasing from others, including Kiyoka Aikawa, Yuzu Tanimoto, Honne Nohotoke, Chifuyu Orimura, and her personal maid, Chelsea Blackett.

In certain instances, Cecilia has demonstrated “yandere”-like tendencies, particularly when provoked by romantic jealousy. She displays aggressive behavior toward Lingyin Huang, and in moments of emotional intensity, she has acted impulsively such as attempting to use her IS weaponry in comical retaliation when Ichika interacts romantically with others. Notably, in Episode 12, she nearly fires on Ichika during a close moment with Houki, and in Volume 2, she attempts to snipe him after Laura Bodewig kisses him, an act that prompts a chaotic chase involving the other girls.

Despite these exaggerated moments, Cecilia’s affection for Ichika remains genuine, and her interactions though often competitive or dramatic stem from a deep desire to be acknowledged, respected, and loved.

Appearance

Cecilia Alcott is a graceful and attractive teenage girl with long, light blonde hair that curls into distinctive drill-shaped locks at the ends, a traditional symbol of nobility. She typically wears a royal blue headband that keeps her hair neatly styled. Her eyes are a striking light blue, and she is frequently described as beautiful, possessing a tall, slender figure with pronounced curves, including a narrow waist, ample bust, and well-defined hips.

Her IS Academy uniform is customized to reflect her refined taste. Unlike the standard version, Cecilia’s uniform features a longer skirt with black frilled edges, as well as matching frills on the sleeves. She also wears dark tights, adding to her elegant and dignified appearance. During IS training and combat, she dons a blue variant of the standard training suit. In standby mode, her IS takes the form of ornamental ear accessories.

Ichika Orimura has noted that Cecilia’s refined features, poised stance often with a hand on her hip and well-proportioned body resemble that of a professional model, a role she has indeed taken on in the past. Outside of the academy, she favors high-class, elegant dresses as part of her everyday wardrobe, further emphasizing her aristocratic background and personal style.

History

Cecilia Alcott was born into a prominent British noble family. Her mother was a highly influential figure both within their household and in wider society, gaining further prominence following the introduction of the Infinite Stratos (IS) technology. Despite her mother’s strict and demanding nature, Cecilia admired her greatly and aspired to live up to her legacy.

In stark contrast, Cecilia’s father played a passive and largely ineffective role in both family affairs and public life. Spoiled and entitled, he became a burden to his wife and a negative example in Cecilia’s eyes. This disparity deeply influenced Cecilia’s perception of men leading her to idealize strength, independence, and competence as key traits in a potential partner.

Tragedy struck when both of her parents died in a mysterious train accident. The incident shocked Cecilia, especially since it was the only time in memory that her parents had traveled together. In the aftermath, she was thrust into a struggle to defend her family’s estate, as numerous individuals sought to seize their wealth and assets. Cecilia later discovered that the “accident” had been orchestrated; her parents had allegedly committed treason by obtaining an IS core from the rogue group Phantom Task and integrating it into the IS unit Exia, prompting their elimination.

Determined to preserve her family’s name and fortune, Cecilia devoted herself to academic and military training. Upon achieving the highest score on the IS aptitude test in her region, the British government offered her a deal: they would support her legal and financial standing in return for her service as England’s IS Representative Candidate. Accepting this role, Cecilia transferred to the IS Academy to gain operational data, combat experience, and formal training in piloting her personal IS unit, Blue Tears.

Infinite Stratos and Abilities

Cecilia Alcott is recognized as a highly capable IS pilot, having scored exceptionally well on the IS aptitude test at a young age. Her early proficiency earned the attention of the British government, which led to her selection as the IS Representative Candidate of England and the assignment of her personal IS unit, Blue Tears.

Cecilia is classified as an A-Rank pilot, known for her expertise in long-range combat and marksmanship. Her combat style revolves around precision shooting and sniping, utilizing Blue Tears’ drone-based system to engage enemies from a distance. In addition to ranged combat, Cecilia has demonstrated proficiency in close-quarters combat. In Volume 11, she is shown to be a skilled fencer, capable of holding her own against Chelsea Blackett, although she resorted to stripping to her undergarments during the fight to improve her mobility.

Her battle performance is generally strong, and she has shown the ability to avoid attacks that could incapacitate lesser pilots. However, her overconfidence occasionally hinders her performance, making her vulnerable to unconventional or unpredictable tactics. In Volume 5, Cecilia candidly admits she sees herself as the weakest among Ichika’s close companions, believing that she should have lost to him in their first duel and only won due to a technicality.

Because Blue Tears is designed for solo combat capable of targeting multiple opponents without external support Cecilia initially struggled with team-based tactics and formations. Over time, however, she improved her strategic abilities and learned to manipulate her laser beams to bend at certain angles, giving her an advantage in complex engagements.

Skills and Talents Outside Combat
Beyond her combat abilities, Cecilia possesses several refined talents. She is an accomplished violinist and pianist, in keeping with her aristocratic upbringing. She is also an excellent tennis player, having won a tournament held by the IS Academy’s tennis club.

Initially, Cecilia was notably poor at cooking, often disregarding recipes and substituting incorrect ingredients. However, after tasting her own successful dish and following instructions from her maid Chelsea, she began to improve. While she continues to experiment in the kitchen, she now shows greater competence in following recipes and preparing proper meals.

Etymology

The given name Cecilia is of Latin origin, derived from Caecilia, a Roman family name meaning “blind.” It is a classical name often associated with elegance and nobility, fitting Cecilia’s aristocratic background in the series.

Her surname, Alcott, is of English origin and may be interpreted as meaning “old cottage” or “from the old dwelling.” It is also notably shared with Louisa May Alcott, the famous American author of Little Women, further reinforcing the refined and cultured image associated with the character.

Trivia

    • Cecilia’s IS unit, Blue Tears, shares several visual and functional similarities with mobile suits from the Gundam franchise. Its color scheme, drone-based weaponry, and long-range sniper rifle are widely considered a homage to the ZGMF-X20A Strike Freedom Gundam from Gundam SEED Destiny. The unit’s “Bits” resemble Strike Freedom’s DRAGOON System, the waist-mounted rocket launchers echo its railguns, and the high-powered rifle is likely a nod to Strike Freedom’s combined beam rifle.
    • Blue Tears may also reference GN-002 Gundam Dynames and GN-006 Cherudim Gundam from Mobile Suit Gundam 00. Similar to Dynames and Cherudim, Blue Tears emphasizes long-range combat and uses optical drones/shield bits. The green jewel in Cecilia’s hairband is reminiscent of the Sniper Mode camera used by Dynames.
    • The similarities between Blue Tears and Cherudim Gundam include a sniper rifle, sniper mode optics, hidden missile compartments, and deployable shield bits. However, Blue Tears’ drone design is more akin to the “fang” weaponry seen in Gundam 00, albeit without the homing or piercing capabilities.
    • Blue Tears also supports customizable loadouts, similar to the Strike Gundam from Gundam SEED. One of its optional configurations, the Strike Gunner pack, closely resembles the Gunbarrel Striker pack used by both Strike Gundam and the 105 Dagger.
    • Cecilia is known for her poor cooking skills, despite the attractive appearance of her dishes. This trait is not only a play on the stereotype of English cuisine but also draws a humorous comparison to Mizuki Himeji from Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu, who shares a similar discrepancy between presentation and taste in her cooking.
