Matsuri Hibino

Matsuri Hibino (陽比野まつり Hibino Matsuri) is the main protagonist of Waccha Primagi!. A first-year junior high school student, she has a deep love for both Primagi performances and traditional festivals. Her cheerful and energetic personality shines through, especially when she’s passionate at which point her determination becomes her greatest strength. Matsuri’s preferred brand is LOVELY MELODY, which complements her lively and heartfelt performances.

Appearance

Matsuri has slightly curved blue eyes and vibrant orange hair that falls past her shoulders, accented by a braid on the right side of her head.

When she transforms into a Primagista, her hair becomes significantly longer, with short tufted forelocks framing her face. The color shifts to a vivid hot pink with a soft peach-orange ombre, and pastel blue streaks are added, enhancing her magical and festive look.

Personality

Matsuri is a kind-hearted and cheerful girl who approaches life with optimism and warmth. She carries a strong sense of responsibility, showing a surprising level of maturity for her age. At the same time, she can be quite excitable, especially when it comes to things she’s passionate about, like Primagi and festivals.

Relationships

Myamu
Myamu is Matsuri’s magician partner. The two first met when Myamu overheard Matsuri humming “Believe” outside Prism Stone. Eager to find a partner, Myamu recruited Matsuri into Primagi. Though initially hesitant, Matsuri eventually agreed. It’s later revealed in episode 4 that they had met once before when Matsuri was a young girl lost in the forest Myamu, in her cat form, comforted her during that moment.

Toma Ibuki
Toma is Matsuri’s childhood friend. They’ve supported each other since they were young, and as they’ve grown, Matsuri now sees him as a rival, wanting to improve alongside him.

Hina Yayoi
Matsuri admired Hina even before they met in person. After getting to know her, Matsuri came to understand the dedication and effort Hina pours into Primagi. Before the Fresh Festival, Matsuri struggled with self-doubt due to the clear gap in their experience and training.

Lemon Kokoa
Lemon is both a friend and a rival to Matsuri. They debuted around the same time, and Matsuri helped Lemon overcome her stage fright. Since then, they’ve supported one another and often spend time together, especially with their friends from the Moon District.

Miruki Amauri
Despite Miruki’s occasional mean-spirited behavior, Matsuri doesn’t seem to notice and instead is charmed by her cuteness. She continues to see Miruki in a positive light, often admiring her appearance.

Amane Sumeragi
Matsuri is a huge fan of Amane, frequently seen admiring her just like Lemon and Miruki. Amane’s poise and presence deeply inspire her.

Jennifer Sumire Sol
Jennifer is Matsuri’s idol and the person who sparked her interest in becoming a Primagista. Matsuri holds her in the highest regard.

Auru Omega
Auru is Matsuri’s duo partner in Techno Magical. Matsuri is determined to connect with her and hopes to ensure Auru enjoys herself while performing in Primagi.

Etymology

Hibino (陽比野) – Hi (陽) means “sunshine,” “daytime,” or “heaven”; bi (比) means “compare” or “contest”; and no (野) is a common character in Japanese surnames meaning “field.”

Matsuri (まつり) – Written in hiragana, her given name does not have a fixed meaning. However, it likely references the word matsuri (祭り), which means “festival” in Japanese, reflecting her energetic nature and love for celebrations.
