Misaki Takasaki

Misaki Takasaki (高崎 美咲, Takasaki Misaki) is one of the main heroines of the Koi to Uso (Love and Lies) anime and manga series. She is a first-year student at Kasugayama High School and a classmate of Yukari Nejima and Yūsuke Nisaka. Misaki plays a central role in the story’s emotional and romantic conflicts, serving as Yukari’s first love and a key figure in the series’ exploration of love within a government-controlled matchmaking system.

Appearance

Misaki Takasaki is a teenage girl of average height with a graceful and attractive appearance. She has fair skin and shoulder-length dark blue hair, styled with long fringes that fall to the left side of her face. Her large sapphire-blue eyes contribute to her gentle and approachable expression. Misaki is known for her curvaceous figure, particularly noted for her prominent bust.

At school, she wears the standard Kasugayama High School uniform, though her skirt is slightly shorter than average. Outside of school, she prefers casual yet feminine outfits that reflect her soft and composed personality.

Due to her looks and gentle presence, Misaki is considered one of the most admired girls at school. Many students, including Yukari Nejima, describe her as the prettiest and most popular girl among their classmates.

Personality

Misaki Takasaki is portrayed as a kind-hearted and outgoing individual who effortlessly builds positive relationships with those around her. She does not discriminate in whom she befriends and often creates a warm, welcoming atmosphere, contributing to her widespread popularity among classmates.

Beyond her friendly nature, Misaki is also highly empathetic and emotionally mature. This is especially evident when Yukari Nejima confesses his feelings to her, shortly before receiving his government notice assigning him a marriage partner. Although she is deeply conflicted by the situation knowing that his feelings for her remain unchanged Misaki does not react with resentment. Instead, with encouragement from Ririna Sanada, she cautiously agrees to continue her relationship with Yukari, despite the implications it has under the marriage policy system. Her quiet strength and willingness to navigate this emotional conflict reflect her thoughtful and understanding nature.

Background

Misaki Takasaki has lived a relatively quiet and private life, attending Kasugayama High School as a first-year student. From a young age, she has shown a calm and composed personality, which has made her well-liked by both classmates and teachers. While not much is known about her family life, she is often portrayed as independent and emotionally self-aware.

Her romantic connection to Yukari Nejima began during their elementary school years, when a small gesture sharing an eraser left a lasting impression on Yukari. Although they had limited interaction at the time, that moment stayed with him for years. By the time they reunited in high school, Misaki had also developed feelings for Yukari, though she kept them hidden due to the societal pressure of the government-mandated marriage system.

When Yukari is officially assigned to Ririna Sanada, Misaki remains composed despite her inner conflict. She agrees to continue seeing Yukari privately, guided by Ririna’s insistence and encouragement. This decision places Misaki in a difficult emotional position, as she must balance her personal desires with the restrictions imposed by the law.

Relationships

Yukari Nejim
Misaki and Yukari share a long-standing romantic connection, having first met in elementary school. A small gesture Yukari offering half of his eraser when Misaki had none left a deep impression on her. His kind actions and unique personality caused Misaki to develop a quiet crush on him, even though they had little interaction afterward.

Ririna Sanada
Ririna is Misaki’s first true friend. Even after learning about Misaki’s feelings for Yukari, Ririna remains supportive, expressing no jealousy despite being Yukari’s assigned partner. In fact, Ririna is the one who urges Misaki and Yukari to pursue a relationship so that she can observe and understand what love looks like.

Yūsuke Nisaka
The nature of Misaki’s relationship with Yūsuke Nisaka remains largely ambiguous throughout the series. Although they are both classmates of Yukari, their interactions are minimal and sometimes marked by visible tension. Misaki is occasionally shown acting cold or distant toward Nisaka, leading to the perception that they do not get along well. At one point, Yukari mistakenly assumes the two might be interested in each other romantically, though this is quickly disproven.

Etymology

The given name Misaki (美咲) is composed of the kanji 美 (mi), meaning “beautiful,” and 咲 (saki), meaning “blossom” or “to bloom,” reflecting elegance and grace.

Her surname Takasaki (高崎) consists of 高 (taka), meaning “tall” or “high,” and 崎 (saki), meaning “cape” or “peninsula.”

In the Misaki Route, after marrying Yukari Nejima, her married name becomes Nejima (根島), which combines 根 (ne), meaning “root,” and 島 (shima or jima), meaning “island.”
